Trying Ultex for the 1st time ...

Used to use em, then found the holy grail of picks: Jazz III's in black, 1.38MM

Aren't the Jazz IIIs supposed to be really small and dificult to handle, plus they are very stiff which I assume would effect fast riffing and strumming. This is a big reaon I dropped from my 1.14 Ultex to 1.0 Ultex and may go lower for the added flexibility.

I can't find the Jzz IIIs on the Dunlop site.

Wow, there's a lot of heavy pick users here. I agree... my picks are the heaviest I can find.

I happen to prefer Dunlop Gator Grips, because they're less likely to slip out of position. I use the 2.0 mm kind.... my personal favorite pick.

i use either .88 tortex (green turtle) or the 1mm ultex. those ultex wear very well and have a little more snap to them than the tortex, very stiff material

The 1mm Ultex is darn near perfect. I hear the Pickboy carbonate picks are also tremendous. I am starting to dislike heavy piks over 1mm because they are harder to play fast strumming or funky rhythms. You can get plenty heavy tones with 1mm picks, plus I find them more versatile. They also never leave my hand when playing. For some reason the Gator Grips always slipped out of my hands.

I still can find any info on those Jazz IIIs.

Re: Trying Ultex for the 1st time ...

ultex owns any pick..
i used to use tortex until...i became disatisfied with them...the thick ones didnt chord well and the thin ones dont solo well so i picked up the ultex...

its awsome, it chords AND solos well....i like the snap

Re: Trying Ultex for the 1st time ...

How is the grip on Ultex compared to the Gator grips?
I swear by Gator grips 1,14mm now but if there is anything better out there I'd have to try it. Gator grips seem to last forever though, I still have 6 out of a 12 pack left that I bought a year ago!

How does everybody snap Fender picks so easily? I use the standard Fender pick (351 model I think) in heavy and I've never broken one. Do you hammer on your guitar or just h old the picks real tight?

They don't break. They get ground down from constant picking.

I agree, the Ultex is the ultimate pick!!

A friend recommended Pickboy cabonate picks but I have not tried those.

Currently I use the 1.0 mm Ultex because I find it the most versatile and use GHS Boomers.

I tried the Gator Grip but they always slipped out of my hand and wore out to fast.
