Tung Sol EL34B

anyone use these Tung Sol EL34B?
eventually when i buy new power tubes for my DSL100 i was thinking about getting these. either these or the winged c's-which i literally cant find a thing soncially wrong with them, they may be the perfect EL34.

but ive read random posts over the past 2 years and people say the Tung-Sol EL34B are great for harmoic overtones, great for power chords and such.

and after much time with my preamp tubes, ill say the tung sol 12ax7 in v1 is the best thing you can do for a amp. for a long time i thought my sovtek lps was the right way to go in v1 making it bigger and fuller, but it actually backs down the saturation and tightness overall but increases the volume so you think its working but its not actually. you live you learn, but the LPS in PI is the best it gets it makes it pan and sound more 3D. amazing if you A/B with other tubes in the PI.

ok off topic there for a little bit.

thanks do0ds for any help!

Re: Tung Sol EL34B

I like the Tung-Sol RI 12AX7.

I hate the EL34. Sounds like crap, and I tried them in numerous amps. In a way it's like the JJ E34L.... more bottom end than your typical EL34. However I found the bottom end always sounded odd. Cardboard is how I'd describe it.

Re: Tung Sol EL34B

Wish I could help you out with actual experience. I've heard great things about the new Tung-Sol 34's as well. I always ran the winged "C"s in my Marshall when I had it, they had such a great sound. I'm also really interested in trying these

if they're still available when I get an amp back. I've had great luck with NOS RFT 12ax7's from Germany in the past, so I'm guessing these sound great too. A bit more expensive though....

cardboard is bad news! i find my v30s expose alot of cardboard in the EL34s.

Ya, I didn't notice the first time that you had a DSL 100. A quartet is a bunch of money. At least replacements for the winged "C"s are only $29 each or so.

Re: Tung Sol EL34B

I have a pair of Siemens/RFT ( got em from KCA) they've been in my 800 2204 for 3 years, they still test like new, and that amp has a plate voltage of 475(roughly) and no problem, they can handle it. I also ran winged C's in that amp (and have some in my JVM205H currently, they sound really good too) Either way you can't go wrong, but the RFT's are warmer, and richer overall. Of course, you need a richer pocket book too ;)

I've never got a bad tube from KCA. He may not always have the biggest selection, but his prices are fair and he knows his tubes; only puts the best of the best out there.

Re: Tung Sol EL34B

CHINESE el34B! I'm dead serious! Cheap as hell but I swear it's like the one good tube they make. A lot of people recommended these on other forums if you can't afford the winged C.
I got some "early breakup" chinese el34bs in my DSL50 and they blow the stock svetlanas way outta the water. Not as "woofy" in the mids, but it's got all that el34 breakup once you turn the master up to 3 or higher.

I agree.....I love those tubes!

Although......I really wanna try some RFT's!

Re: Tung Sol EL34B

Man, I don't mind paying a premium for NOS tubes, but those prices are crazy stupid, and people are buying them!

i agree, crazy people:bling:

I still use 4 old siemens el34 that came with my JMP head.
Does anyone here have any experience with EH EL34 and JJ EL34 (not E34L!!)? Share it please!

I tried the EH and I actually like them quite a bit.

They're a bit clearer with more mids when compared to the JJ E43L (I know, not the ones you want to know about). I actually bought a new set not too long ago. IMHO, they are a very good value.

Re: Tung Sol EL34B

yeah they also get relabled as the Ruby Tubes EL34B-STR.

I think I went to the tube depot? I specifically asked for an "early breakup" set and they seem to get juiced much faster than the stock svetlanas but those stock tubes were 4 years old when I got to em.

hey that's what I keep hearing about EH too and that sounds good to me...Thanks!
E34L sound more like 6L6 than old el34..that's what I heard about EL34B (china and tungsol) too

Re: Tung Sol EL34B

The EL34s with a bit of 6L6 in them are an interesting idea for channel switching amps, because you get a clearer, deeper, clean channel, but your still running EL34s when things get dirty.

The best for this type of thing is the 6CA7. No cardboard. Not for early breakup, but they still sound much like EL34s, and with bottom end. NOS 6CA7s are hard to come by, but the EH reissues arn't bad at all.
