Tuning machines - Kauer Guitars Banshee

Anyone know who makes the tuning machines on the Kauer Banshee? I first noticed them watching a Rival Sons concert on TV ... on Scott Holliday's Kauer Banshee. They are straight thru rather than 90 degree machines, with the peg located on the topside of the headstock. I cant find anything in a search so I suspect that Kauer has them made (or machines them themselves), but maybe not. Anyone know for sure?

Not sure... and haven't seen them. Could be Steinbergers.

Bingo. Steinbergers, or copies. I've been alive too long to not have seen those before so it must be the mind going. Good call LLL. Thanks.

Re: Tuning machines - Kauer Guitars Banshee

With a premium guitar like Kauer, I should think they're actual Steinbergers rather than copies.

But anyway, they're gearless tuners, you can buy them from Stewmac: http://www.stewmac.com/Hardware_and...head/Steinberger_Gearless_Tuners.html#details.

I played a new Gibson Firebird recently that had them stock and they seemed pretty good (not having played one with the old school banjo jobs, fwiw) - smooth and responsive.

The old style banjo tuners are cool as heck and work well, not as well as the Steinbergers however. The biggest problem with the banjos is that they weigh as much as the entire rest of the guitar! With the Firebird's already long neck, it's a recipe for extreme neck-dive.

Re: Tuning machines - Kauer Guitars Banshee

If I regularly played my Firebird I'd put in the Steinbergers without a 2nd thought. But since I rarely play it, I'm keeping the very cool looking banjos.

I didn't mean to suggest cheap copies, more like custom made Sternberger-like. At any rate, they appear to be Steinbergers. Thanks.
