Turned my RG1XXV into a JEM777 jr!

When Ibanez released the RG1XXV, I knew i wanted one. But in person they looked weird, as none of the yellow matched (inlays, body, pickups, etc) Then I got the idea to buy the yellow one and give it all the appointments of a JEM777DY. I got the green knobs, the pink pickup selector, and of course, pink dimarzios. Tone Zone in the bridge, Area 67 in the middle, and a Liquifire in the neck. All it's missing is the monkey grip! This thing screams. I feel my hair get bigger and my pants more spandex each time i pick it up. Here's a before and after shot.

Excuse me while I party like its 1989!

Groovy.:smokin: Though my desert yellow Jem came with red knobs not green but the green looks cool too

Sweet. What I didn't like about the RG1XXV was the pickups and inlays have a gross vomit yellow colow- not the neon yello. The pink is so much more awesome

Re: Turned my RG1XXV into a JEM777 jr!

I'm planning to swap the pups on my Yellow RG1XXV with a D Activator bridge, and a Super2 in the neck with coil-tap, and this thread is giving me ideas for pickup colors. The stock IBZ/Diamrzio pups are alright, but can be better. The 1XXV, in my opinion, has the fastest neck in the Premium line. Kinda feels like my JEM7V, but not quite as wide.

yeah i'm really happy with it. i got it used from a friend for $400 so i wanted to play around with it. the new pickups were a huge upgrade over the stock ones, which were ok.

Oh dude... HUGE win there!

I absolutely love that. Nice pairing the Tone Zone and the '67. That's what I've got going on in the guitar in my sig (with a D-Activator X in the neck).

That's very awesome man. Where did you get those green knobs and pink toggle?

Sweet- I want one but cant justify the $799 tehy want for one- $400 is awesome

TheLivingDead - Yeah I've always wanted to try the tone zone, ever since i saw that ad with paul gilbert in it, but never really had the right guitar to put on in. this thing was screaming for it, and it sounds really good. the guitar definately benefitted from the extra low end and growl. i picked the area 67 for no reason other than gilbert was using it. I almost went with just a pink cover over the stock pickup because i never use it, but i'm glad i didn't. Thing sounds fantastic! jury is still out on the liquifire. Sounds good, but is a little muddy, missing the clarity i've gotten from a paf pro or a PGn. But whatever, i'm still dialing it in.

verbotenco - Originally tried getting the knobs from guitarpartsresource.com, ran into the same communication issues everyone seems to have if something is backordered. But they refended my money quickly so no hard feelings. Ended up getting the knobs from mojotone.com, and the pickup selector i ordered from dimarzio along with the pickups. It's a little big for the ibanez switch, so we put a little tape around the 5 way switch and it works great.

jmh151 - yeah $800 for an indonesian guitar is a little nuts, but it really does feel like most mid-grade japanese ibanez guitars i've played. the non-premium ones i didn't like at all.

The last time I looked, they're still $899, which isn't as preposterous as it sounds. Playability-wise, the neck actually plays better than my RG1570 Prestige. So basically, you're paying $300 more for the Premium neck profile, which is notably faster than the necks on the low-end RG Tremolo line that tops out at $499. Although the IBZ/Dimarzio design pups aren't the best, they sound considerably better than those horrible INF pups (especially the INF1 in the neck) in the lower RG and S line.

Don't you love the quackiness on clean the TZ+'67 gives you? I LOVE the 4th position now. Lots of versatility there.

I think yours is the one with ebony/ rosewood fretboard and tree of life inlay, right? There is a JEM like that.

TheLivingDead - yeah it's funny, a guitar that looks like this should be a one trick pony, but its actually one of the most versatile guitars i now have in my collection.

verbotenco - nope. i'm pete macy.
