Twin Tube Mayhem/Tube Pedals

I just realized/Noticed that whenever the Twin Tube Mayhem Pedal is Plugged into power no matter if the pedal is on or in bypass mode the Tubes are Energized.
I suppose then that I should always unplug the pedal from the Power Supply whenever not in use for more then say 30 minutes?
Is it designed that way so that when you are in bypass mode and switch it on there is no delay(due to the tubes having to pre-heat) alowwing you to go from clean or non Pedal driven to Distorted?
I had not realized that and was curious as to why the pedal was so warm almost to the point of being hot today.
Lucky for me I have been doing some different configurations as far as connection routing and have had the pedal always completely unplugged until today so I do not have to worry about excessive Tube Useage/Wear.
How long or I guess what is the average life expectancy of these specific tubes used in the Twin Tube Mayhem Pedal?
Is it something like Light Bulbs where they are rated for a life expectancy of say 9K Hours or does it depend on other Variables?
I have never dealt with Tube amps (that I can recall) or Tube Pedals before so I have no Idea about how long Tubes last before wearing out, I do assume they do wear as time passes due to the physics involved with electrons Transfering from plates to collectors etc.
Are all the Tube pedals That SD Makes designed the same way with the tubes energized whenever the power is connected?
I do remember reading about Tube amps that mentioned they should not be left in warmup or standby mode for long periods due to the Idling process and something about Loading up with energy.
I would also assume that you are not to connect or disconnect the 1/4" Instrument cables from the inputs or outputs or the device they are connected to wheter it be the device creating the amplified sound or the guitar without disconnecting the power supply first?
This as I said was just something I had noticed when the lights were off and I could see the Tubes Illuminated through the Vents so I thought I had better ask about it.
Not to mention someone else may be like me and not have realized this and could possibly be leaving their pedal plugged in and this thread could possibly inform them to unplug it so it does damage their tubes.
Thanks

Re: Twin Tube Mayhem/Tube Pedals

Well, it makes sense to me. Think of it this way: tubes have to be heated to work properly (why tube amps need to warm-up before you get any sound out of them). If the tubes in the pedal were to not receive any current when on bypass, they'd have to go through a warm-up period everytime you'd switch the effect off bypass... that wouldn't work.

¸If my memory's correct, these tubes are military grade and therefore can withstand lots of abuse for quite long. I wouldn't worry about their life expectancy. That being said, disconnecting any electric musical instrument when not in use is always a good idea, especially when they are generating heat, such as tube amps/pedals. If the pedal were to have an ON/off switch like an amp you could just turn it off like you do your amp but that's not the way they're built.
