Ultimate Chorus Buzz

So I was at guitar center today, and I came across a Fender Ultimate Chorus for 140 dollars. The speakers had been replaced, but I plugged a guitar into it, and the clean sounded great on it, it was lound, and it seemed like a good deal. Anyway, I got it home, and I realized that there's a buzz on the distortion channel that grows when I turn up the gain, or the volume. This isn't a normal distortion buzz, it makes the amp unusable.

The buzz is only apparent when an amp cord is plugged in, and it reduces when you touch the metal surrounding on the outside of the guitar side's plug.

I know, I should have played it at a loud volume before I bought it, but do you have any suggestions as to what it is? or should I just return it?

could be a ground problem in the amp. i would try a different guitar cord and a different guitar. check all the chords between effects pedals if you are using any. start with the small stuff.

I tried a new cord, same deal

the buzz is also present when no guitar is plugged in, but just a cord, so I do think it's a grounding problem.

now if I could just figure out how to open up the head...

I'd also go for a grounding problem...
Have you tried a shorted guitar cable? if you connect the pins you connect the signal to the ground and all you hear is the pure hum of the amp. If it's really the amp, you might have to reground the amp. That can be quite a hazzle but also makes it much quiter - in some amps it's really surprising how bad they're grounded

It may be poorly grounded, but I found that if I go to a larger room the feedback is fine.

It could have just been receiving feedback from its self in my small room.
