hey guys been a while since I've been on here. I recently picked up a used carvin vintage 33 tube combo and had posted on a carvin forum about it but figured there's probably a wider number of people/opinions here.
Basically I'm looking to retube the amp (I'm leaning toward a Low Gain Blues Option #2 retube kit from Eurotubes as I'm on a limited budget and from what I hear/see Eurotubes is best bang for the buck). As much as I'd love a prized set of NOS tubes I know my fiance would have me dead if she found out I spent $$$ on stuff for a guitar amp.
I'm also looking to swap the stock Carvin V12 speaker for something a little nicer that can handle general purposes/all styles.
Eminence suggested I try a Cannibis Rex or Swamp Thang.
I'm leaning toward a Texas Heat or Private Jack. In fact I'm thinking about getting both a TH and a PJ and ordering the 112 extension cabinet from carvin.
I like Eminence and Weber speakers because they are made in usa, sound great, and give you the best bang for the buck. So I'd like to avoid other speaker suggestions. I'm really interested in Eminence because Guitar Center can get them and I have a free gift card to use there so I can get a discount on that vs paying all out of pocket with another option.
I have a Tele (nashville strat neck and mid, broadcaster bridge), PRS (p-rails hot set), and a LP semi hollow (Fralin Pure PAF's, great pickups btw but I'm still curious if I should've ordered a set of Antiquity JB/Jazz). I play a lot of blues, blues-rock, indie, psychedelic, classic rock, surf, a little country, a little jazz, etc. The only territory I don't cross is really heavy stuff.
I'd like a nice thick tone that won't be ice picky or overly bright.
But yeah I hope you guys can help me decide because Monday I go to GC and pull the trigger on ordering a speaker, I'm also getting vintage red George L's cables for my rig (can't wait to redo the pedalboard).
