If you don't get an answer here, (as to body wood), you can always try the Peavey forum. Nice bunch of folks over there. (A few of us here, hang out there.)
As you can tell by my sig, I think Peaveys are very under-rated guitars. Especially the older MIA ones.

I love some of Peavey's guitar designs, but never played one I fell in love with.
Their amps have left a sour taste in my mouth, unfortunately.
I had TWO 5150 II heads blow their trannies on me!!!!
