VHT Have updated their site.... sorta.

VHT have updated their site to show the Sig:X amp, but that's it.

Once you click on the "Enter Site" button, it's still the old one. But at least they've changed the "New Product" page to the Sig:X which has some details.

Re: VHT Have updated their site.... sorta.

Yawn.......................

and there link to their site is still the same after 100 years.....

I have a VHT 50ST and love it, but for christs sake, put some sound files on the **** site already and spiff it up!

Are they that busy building amps??

oh and by the way that SigX panel looks like the cockpit of the space shuttle!

Re: VHT Have updated their site.... sorta.

The SIG:X is laaaaaaaaaaame. It's just a UL with a bunch of different poweramp options, voicing options, and different tolex.

I had high hopes for that amp.

Re: VHT Have updated their site.... sorta.

Hey Jimmy did you hear it up close???

I had high hopes for the amp as well. but you cant judge it from some lameola youtube vid.

Re: VHT Have updated their site.... sorta.

Yeah they need to make a better site. Take Engl for example. Their site is nothing really special but it's still way better, so...

Re: VHT Have updated their site.... sorta.

The other guitar player I play with has the Pitbull 45 watt head with matching cab in snakeskin. Its a real nice sounding amp.

Re: VHT Have updated their site.... sorta.

I still think the Deliverance is the best amp they make.

The other guitarist in my band plays a Deliverance 120 and that thing is really cool. You can dial in this huge, tight overdrive that's excellent for metal take it back through '80s rock, to rock and roll, to chimey clean all with your guitar's volume knob and never drop out of the mix or sound dead.

I don't think I've ever heard an amp capable of so much gain clean up so well.

Plus, it's dead simple - no footswitch, no effects loop, just set and forget. Plug in and play the **** thing.

A great amp.

I never though I would hear "Like a UL" and lame in the same sentence...

I'm scratching my head as too why its bad for VHT to release a UL-esque amp thats cheaper, has more voicing options, and power amp options...

please explain your rationale on that one...

Re: VHT Have updated their site.... sorta.

The UL's awesome. But what the heck? Is VHT going to make ONE amp forever?

Let's check it out.

  • The UL: their crowning achievement. Not a high gain amp currently, but, when originally made, was relatively high gain. It's a great amp -- a player's amp. It has tons of teakability. The voicing is tight and articulate, and the cleans are highly useable.

  • Then VHT makes the deliverance, which is just the orange channel of the UL, in a box. Okay. . . that's kinda cool. This is an amp for all the dudes who just wanted a plug-in-and-play amp, without all of the knobs and features of the UL.

  • Now VHT has the SIG: X. Sure, everyone on their forum raves about it, and says that it can do "MEH-TULL!!!!!". . . but, I.Really.Don't.Think.So. I mean, sure, It can do 1987 metal, but it's actually 2008, L:(L. Come on, VHT. . . all you had to do was add that 5th gain stage, and you would have had a sick amp on yer hands. Look at the tube chart. The Sig: X has the same amount of gain as the UL.
:thumbsdow

Don't believe me? I'll show you:

aaannnnddd. . . yeah.

Sure, it has all kinds of voicing options, but it's the same gain stages. What happened to the "MEH-TULL!!!!" all the d00ds raved about? How come VHT can't make a balls-to-the-wall "MEH-TULL" amplifier? It's not like he doesn't know what he's doing. His build quality is impeccable, yet he torments me with amps made for old men with too much money.

And, FYI: VHT already makes the SIG: X. It's called the GP3+2/90/2, L:guilty:L.

Hey, VHT!

I'm actually a young d00d with some cash in his pocket. Will you please make a "MEH-TULLL!!!" amp for me? I like yer amps, I like the tone, I like the features, but the gain just isn't there.

What else do you want me to say? :sigh:

Dunno. Maybe VHT thinks there is such a thing as too much gain, even for MEH-TULLL...

dude, no offense-- but you sound like you're twelve years old. the UL and not to mention the deliverance are metal monsters.... just because VHT amps arn't dripping with fuzzy preamp saturation doesn't mean it can't do metal at all. In fact, you don't need that much gain to play metal...

you probably just don't like VHT tone-- its too dry and articulate for you...

Re: VHT Have updated their site.... sorta.

I think the dry & articulate sound of VHT's is why people love them so much.

I personally see the Sig:X as a cheaper UL, and they can do great & tight metal tones.

I'm a metal player and think alot of amps have too much gain. If you can actually play, then you don't need that much gain.

If you want a balls out metal amp which is tight, then go with ENGL. The Fireball, Thunder, Powerball have more gain than you'll need.

VHT's are tight, open, dry & natural amps with immense articulation, that's what make VHT amps a VHT and not a rip off of another amp company. I wouldnt want them to change, but i'm also 1 of these who wouldn't stick to 1 amp for everything. Not a single amp can deliver all the tones you want unless you play 1 type of music. It's impossible.

The Sig:X will sell alot just for being a cheaper Pittbull UL.

Re: VHT Have updated their site.... sorta.

One of the things that's really confusing to me is: What's really high gain?

I always used to mean overdrive, the slight break up bluesy, or early rock kind of thing and high gain as the point you reach, as you add more and more overdrive until the sound is really distorted but before fuzz gets in. I don't know if you know what I mean....you know, that point where the palm mutes sound solid but clear with clear, bold distortion.

Above that point any sound is unusable for me. The fuzz gets in the way, loosens the things down and destroys any clarity. I don't really know if that's what high gain tone means or what I've said above, I'm really confused.

The only thing I know is, once VHTs are all about the first description there, they're ideal for me.

Re: VHT Have updated their site.... sorta.

Anyone who says VHT amps aren't really "high gain" amps deserves the BOSS MT-2 they're probably using.

I find your post offensive, deeply offensive.

just because VHT amps arn't dripping with fuzzy preamp saturation doesn't mean it can't do metal at all.

What kind of metal are you talking about, d00d?

VHT's can do:

  1. Dokken
  2. Winger
  3. Ratt
  4. Van Halen
  5. Whitesnake
  6. Nightranger

Gee. . . these are all bands that made "metal" albums in the -- wait for it -- 1980's.
I also love how yer telling me that I DON'T need that much gain to play metal.
Wow, do you have ESP (not the guitar co., dur!)?
Are you psychic?
Are you clairvoyant?
If you are, you need yer own day-time talk show because you can read minds. READ MINDS!!!

you probably just don't like VHT tone-- its too dry and articulate for you...

I'm just saying that I'd like a little more gain out of the box, seeing as it's 2008.

And if VHT's were too "dry and atriculate" for me, I wouldn't own one. In fact, I have owned several -- 50/CL, Deliverance, and 100/CL.

High gain? Think ENGL Powerball or Bogner Uberschall, both modern high-gain amps that are very useable.

If you want to play Dokken forever, more power to you. There's nothing wrong with shredding up some LYNCH LIX. I think VHT's sound incredible out of the box, but I want that little extra kick, you know? Do you know what I mean? It's chasing tone.

Like I said:

I'm sorry, I think I wasn't clear there. Maybe you mistakenly thought that I was indirectly attacking you. That's not the case at all. I was REALLY wondering about my question.

And yeah, I like the 80s stuff TOO much. Dokken and Whitesnake are two of my all time favorites, but I think at least the UL can do extremely heavy stuff. Actually I think it's very difficult to not be able to play any type of metal with such an amp. The only thing is that it does it with it's own character. And I like that character. ;)

I also played the Fireball. Amazing amp, but once I was playing with my L500XL loaded guitar I had to keep the gain knob at around 9-10 o'clock(!) to not sound fuzzy. It has too much gain on tap. Not a bad thing, but something I could never use.

Re: VHT Have updated their site.... sorta.

You only owned classics - neither of those have as much gain or are as aggressive as the Ultra Leads, which have plenty of gain right out of the box.

Right, LOL.

I know you think that you are THE-END-ALL-BE-ALL opinion on meh-tull on this forum. . .
but yer................................, wrong. :foot:

I know you won't believe me, and so I've set up a little example that even you can follow:

Gain stages of the Ultra Lead highlighted in red:

gainstageultrapngub0.png

Gain stages of the Classic 100/One Hundred highlighted in red:
100clgaingd5.png

Gain stages of the Classic Fifty/50 highlighted in red:
fiftyclgainmg0.png

Do you see that? I mean, take a few seconds to actually look at it. . . . Cool? Kewl? Coolio? Kool? KK? L:guilty:L.

The only difference in the UL and Hundred/CL is the power section, which are different designs.

And, of course, the 50/CL has the rectifier, but you already knew that, right? RIGHT? (Right, L:(L?)

I don't know
how two amps with
the same preamp design and
SAME AMOUNT OF AUDIBLE GAIN

Can not have "as much gain" as the other.

Are you listening to both amps through the Andy-Sneap approved headphones? I hear that when you listen through those headphones, everything.sounds.the.same.

Maybe you should give them a go?

To summarize:

The "Classics"

  1. Have the SAME amount of gain
  2. And have the same aggressive tone, because they have an identical design
  3. You're wrong

:ok:
