vintage guitar restore

so, I've had this guitar of my dad's for a really long time. I found this pic on the web, its the same make, model and color. The tuners on my dad's dont work any more. Do you think it's worth a resto and some cleanup? I'm kindof anxious to hear what it sounds like.

Yes I think it would be worth your time and effort. It won't sound like a Vintage Les Paul, but a lot of old Blues players used guitars similar to these. This is a photo of Hound dog Taylor Playing something similar. These type of guitars because they have real chessy pickups sound awesome when used for slide. If you need tuners it will probably be pretty easy to find tuners that drop in. How are the electronics?

Re: vintage guitar restore

I have looked off and on for one of those 4 pickup Kawai guitars for a while now...no luck at all! I think Hound Dog might have the only one sometimes!!

Re: vintage guitar restore

The pickups in some of those old Japanese guitars are crazy cool. I know Ry Cooder loves them to death. I think he scours pawn shops looking for old Goyas to pop the pups out of. I am pretty sure a lot of the companies back then all used the same pup manufacturers.

Yeah Hound Dog's guitar was pretty badass in his hands

Re: vintage guitar restore

Reminds me of the sweet pawn shop job I got for $25 about a year ago. Those old Japanese jobs have a lot of life in 'em, if you know how to squeeze it out. Go for it man.

Definitely worth fixin' up! I've got an old '78 MIJ les paul that needed some new tuners and now that puppy rocks!
