Vintage Orange amps (70's era)

Quick question.

Think Orange amps from the 1970's.

They gave us the OR80 and the OR120 . . . but has any one ever seen or heard of an OR50, from 'round about 1973-75 ?

I can not find anything about a 50Watt OR model any where.

Thanks to all.

Re: Vintage Orange amps (70's era)

The old 70's Orange amps were few and far between Stateside. Everyone wanted Marshalls, but I would absolutely love to fins a 70's Orange. I ain't the least interested in any new Orange because Ive checked into the build quality and for the price I am not interested. Not that they aren't good amps mind, but jebus... teh innards are ghastly ,and the price is way outta line with their quality. I think. Not certain.

I thought the 50 was a modern era pic amp?

I've never seen or heard of a 1970s OR50. I have had the pleasure to play through an original OR80 overdrive, and that thing was amazing. I would have absolutely put down the $1600 asking price if I'd only had it to spare.

Mine have been Rock solid so far. I think I paid 6 for my Dual Terror (PRC) and 750 for AD30 (UK) head, both used. I love them, they sound great and again "zero" issues. My DT gets a lot of use and I think the only thing I had to replace was a flakey pre tube not long after I picked it up 3 1/2 years ago.

I have an AD50 that is exceptional. Fit and finish it beautiful and clean, similar to my Hiwatt. Very reliable, have gigged it quite a bit. They are pricy. If they were more popular maybe the numbers would come down. But it makes some really great sounds no other amp or pedal makes IME.

Re: Vintage Orange amps (70's era)

I think i remember reading that the original Orange Matamp models were OR100s so maybe they also made 50w versions at the time? The OR80 and OR120 came after they dissolved their partnership with Matamp, if i remember correctly. I studied up on this stuff before I bought my 90s Orange reissues but that was a couple of years ago now.

Re: Vintage Orange amps (70's era)

Thank you very much for the info guys.

I am asking this unorthodox question because there is a guy (about 10 hours drive away fro me) that is selling a 1974 50W OR.

I saw pics of the 'claimed' amp, it is really says 50W on the back. Not 80, or 120, but '50' !

I will post these pics later today !!!
