Vintage tube amp? Any interest?

Just picked up a 60's Silvertone tube amp last night at a garage sale, original Sears tubes and everything, works like a charm. Just wondering if there's any interest in these?

Re: Vintage tube amp? Any interest?

Found the info! It's model 9075, it's 42 watts, and I just had to play it some more...if the parents weren't home, I'd crank it! ; ) Around 1.5 - 3 on the vol. it's just the warmest clean sound I've heard in my life! This is my first time with a tube amp, and I have to say, I FINALLY understand what all the fuss is about! At around 3.5 it starts to turn kinda' creamy, I can't describe it, I guess like slightly dirty blues. At around 5 it turns to straight up Led Zeppelin, I burned through several Led Zep songs with my Les Paul, and it sounded really convincing. I can't turn it up past 5, the parents are already mad! : D

Re: Vintage tube amp? Any interest?

that thing CANNOT be 42 watts...it only has on 6v6 tube....that's way too much wattage for that little amp to pull. I'd be much more apt to say that amp is around 8-12 watts maximum..a lot like a Fender Champ....

But it cannot be 42 watts

Re: Vintage tube amp? Any interest?

Do I need to post a picture of where the back of the amp is stamped "Output: 42 Watts" ? C'mon now...I just looked up the Silvertone 9075, two other people have them, and their's are also 42 watts. :chairfall

Re: Vintage tube amp? Any interest?

just because it says output: 42 watts, does not mean that it's audio output is 42 watts. Amp guys correct me on this if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty certain in order to pull 42 watts out of 6v6's, you'd need at least 4 of them

Bro, it has 1 6V6 power tube with a tube rec, at the MAX that is 5 watts...in that amp at those voltages Im guessing around 3...but either way NO more than 5...and again, thats pushing it...

Re: Vintage tube amp? Any interest?

Yep. If it was a 42 watt amp and you turned it up halfway your parents would be more than just a little mad. I've always heard 5 watts compared to someone playing a trumpet in your bedroom, which sounds about right in this scenario. If it were 42 watts you'd be hanging pictures back up on the wall in the next room!

Ok, I stand corrected! Lol, this is my first tube amp, and I'm a total noob when it comes to tubes, so my humble apologies. So 5 watts huh? This thing is surprisingly loud! At half volume, you can hear it through the whole house.:smack:

Thats cool bro...to be honest 5 watts is puching it, like I said, it's more like about 3!

A tube amp will knock you on your ass! If you have it up around half way thats about as lond as it will get (or damn close) however it will start to get thicker and more saturated as you get closer to being all the way up...imagine what it would sound like through a newer more efficent speaker!

Re: Vintage tube amp? Any interest?

yeah, no worries chief...I wasn't trying to give you a hard time, just set ya on the right path :) I apologize if I came across as a bit of a jerk...it's my natural tendency ..I'm really a nice guy!

Re: Vintage tube amp? Any interest?

Hey, I really appreciate all the info guys! So if I were to hold on to it, what would you suggest would be the most "bang for the buck"? A new speaker and some new tubes? Would throwing an overdrive or eq pedal down in front of it help to get the distortion up to speed?
