My Parker is inlay free and when I first got it I thought it might be confusing. Truth is we are never looking at the inlays we are looking at the fret markers. I like the clean look.

Re: Vinyl decal fret marker inlays; yay or nay?

Personally, I don't line my eyes up with the plane of the fretboard -- I hang over the guitar and look at the front of it. I use the board inlays as fret markers -- constantly. On the aesthetic side, for me, inlays help complete the geometric look of a guitar.

On the other hand, plenty of no-inlay fretboards end up looking cool. It depends on the guitar. Plus, my classical guitar doesn't have front or side inlays, and I'm not about to break with tradition by adding them. I'm okay with remembering that the body starts at twelve, and doing the rest by ear.

But if I wanted to put stickers on my fretboard, I wouldn't let someone elses opinion dissuade me.

I miss the days of hunching over my low hanging ax in a very metal way with my long metal hair hanging down over my metal grimace on my face. Now if I try that I'll grab the neck between my table muscle and my moobs. The poor thing is riding Gilmour style all up on the gut now.

LOL. My right boob is permanently shaped like the waist contour on my Les Paul, from sitting with it and trying to cop licks by Al Di Meola and Mark Knopfler.

That's gotta be weird to explain in bed. Its not tennis elbow, its guitar boob.

I got the Celtic cross stickers on my dillion 7 string. I really like them, very thin and don't hinder string bends.

Re: Vinyl decal fret marker inlays; yay or nay?

I'd like to find some mother of pearl waterslide paper and do a one-off. Cthulhu all up in dis fretboard.

Re: Vinyl decal fret marker inlays; yay or nay?

Why not try it? It's totally reversible and not expensive to try.

Re: Vinyl decal fret marker inlays; yay or nay?

True dat. Nothing says Rock 'n Roll like worrying what people think.

Oh, there's many rock bands that are all about image. Their record companies care a lot about what people think, and 'advise' the bands accordingly as far as what to say, how to act, what to wear, etc. This is a corporate world baby, and they control their investments. Image is a HUGE concern in rock. I was listening to underground FM in the late 1960's, when bands could do whatever they wanted, and hippie DJ's could play whatever they wanted. Those were the days. It didn't take long for guys in suits to take over the industry and turn FM radio into a commercial-filled wasteland of corporate playlists. Most of the rebelious, anti-establishment bands need corporate approval for that; it's an image that sells. The classic 'bad boy' thing. They don't promote bands that don't cultivate the right images to appeal to fans. Unfortunately, rock and roll worries a lot about what people think. When you get big money involved, it corrupts anything.

Re: Vinyl decal fret marker inlays; yay or nay?

Are yours peeling or getting messed up when you play or something?

The clear laminate is separating after 2 years. The sticker colors are still 100% and the part that counts is still sticking. I'm still totally happy with them but next time I will shoot some satin on them to prevent this. No big deal, still recommend them to everyone.

Re: Vinyl decal fret marker inlays; yay or nay?

Just say no to stickers on fret boards!

Plus face dots are for sissies, use the side dots.

Spot on!

If you can see the face markers while playing guitar, you're probably bending over. It is not a recommended posture.

Re: Vinyl decal fret marker inlays; yay or nay?

if i could remove every inlay from my guitars i would. maybe they would have been cheaper.

Re: Vinyl decal fret marker inlays; yay or nay?

I have them on one guitar, lasted about 5 years now. Looks fine and most people think they are inlays.
