Say you buy a power supply for your pedals, but it doesn’t have an 18VDC output for your Edmund Von Hofferstein flanger. There are so-called voltage doubler cables said to jumper two 9VDC outputs and create 18VDC. Do these work okay, or do they blow yo’ **** up?

Re: Voltage doubler cables: Friend or foe?

They work fine with isolated supplies, as far as I know. I'm not sure about supplies that aren't truly isolated. Some companies also make a converter cable that steps up a single 9 volt outlet to 18 volts. Not as cheap but it saves a 9V outlet if you cant really spare one. I believe they do have a lower current limit though. Shouldn't be a problem for most pedals but could be for some. Truetone has one and I think Voodoo does too. There are probably no-names too.

Yes, they work on isolated supplies.

I just bought the Voodoo Lab one for use with a PP2+ and MXR EVH Flanger, works great.

Re: Voltage doubler cables: Friend or foe?

Well, the supply is a Voodoo Lab, and the cable would be theirs, also. Isolated outlets, MXR Ed flanger.
