Re: Volune of fender bassman
Back in the 90s I was in a band that sometimes shared venues with another blues-rock band. And even when we were not playing I would often try to catch their show somewhere. The guitarist in that band played with two, yes two, 4-10 bassmans. I don't know if he always cranked them, and he usually had a tube screamer between the guitar and the amps, but he was always loud. I didn't think he was too loud but being a fellow guitarist I might be jaded? Things have changed a lot since then. I don't think he could get away with that now. But there's a lot of variation to what is loud, loud enough, and way too loud.
A few years later I was at jam and I brought a 50 watt 1x12 tube combo. My amp was absolutely crushed. Totally cranked, I could not hear myself hardly at all, and my buddy out in the audience said he could not hear me there either. I had installed a low sensitivity speaker in the amp, though. If I had a 100db speaker in the amp, it might have been loud enough, or maybe too loud, for that situation? So you never know, but most times a 30 watt amp is plenty loud.
