Re: Vote for your favorite Combo

None of those. Even if I did play a strat. I'd probably go with a hot hummer and a couple more vintage-sounding SCs.

Re: Vote for your favorite Combo

From those choices, the last one for sure.

which combo would you choose?

None of the above! I don't use Strat sized humbuckers for neck and middle pickups in any of my guitars. Real Strat style single coils only...hum and all. They've got the tone. Lew

Re: Vote for your favorite Combo

ditto everyone else's comments. I love an aII pro humbucker neck and a CC bridge, or a set of p-90's, or if I had a strat I would probably go aII pro single coils or antiquities.

Re: Vote for your favorite Combo

i am just so confused because of all the choices there are available. what about you guys?

Re: Vote for your favorite Combo

I also don't care for any of those combos. My H/S/S Strat is currently C5/Cool Rails/Cool Rails

how do you like that setup? i am playing thru a fender blues deville 410, and i plan to retube it and maybe get some different speakers to finish out my "tone tweaking". i just want a versitle set-up to be able to cover lots of styles effectively.

Re: Vote for your favorite Combo

To be honest you really 'oughta consider new choices, none of the above really got anyyone's vote and having a JB jr & hot rails almost totally defeats the whole purpose of having a strat. Just be honest, and I don't really think you'll get the best variety of tones either with any of those choices.

Re: Vote for your favorite Combo

From those choices I guess I'd go with the 59/b, and Lil59/m & n. Might be fun! But I'd rather have a Custom in the bridge.

same as me.

Re: Vote for your favorite Combo

I love that setup, but I have it wired slightly less than typically. I have the bridge C5 and neck SCR-1 wired to a Gibson style 3-way and the middle SCR-1 is attached directly to the volume knob with an on-off switch. I can't get the middle pickup by itself, but I can get bridge/neck or all 3 which you can't get with a 5-way.

I'm using a Marshall 2555 into a 1982B cab with G12Hs. The guitar is a Charvel Model 4 with a maple neck and a Kahler Pro. The tone of the C5 is very full and thick, slightly bright on top but not icepick bright. The SCR-1s have a very SRV-like tone to them. The cleans are nice and bright, but still very full and the leads absolutely scream. I didn't like the C5 with a rosewood board (seemed muddy) but the maple really did the trick. I also have a 500K volume in the guitar for all pickups, and it's strung with DR Pure Blues 11-50 in Eb.

Re: Vote for your favorite Combo

Doh I have tried the whole deal with strats....and I keep coming back to three ways, double fullsize humbuckers, three singlecoils(preferly SSL-1's or APS-1's) or two SSL-1's and a 59b or Demon, sometimes a Wolfgang humbucker.
That is the three most useable ones, keep it simple is the deal to me.

Re: Vote for your favorite Combo

From those choices none actualy. I would go with what Les said keep a strat with strat kind pickups . But if i had to eventualyy choose between those i would go for that last option. But i would still love a strat the way its with maybe warmer alnicoII pickups

Re: Vote for your favorite Combo

I just decided on a lil 59/cool rails/distortion for my Ibanez S-series. Once I get them in I'll let you know how it sounds. I didn't mind mucho buckers cause I have my Schecter Tele with Rios for my single coil work. And I have Another Schecter with an EMG set.

one with Emg's is my metal guitar

Ibanez is my rockin' and shreddin' guitar

Tele is for everything else.

Re: Vote for your favorite Combo

JB bridge and JBJr neck is a great combo, which is what ive got, and even though i dont have one in the middle i voted that one
