I am looking for a wah, and want to know what the current opinions are.

I'm not sure what I'm looking for in a wah, I'm open to suggestions.

Well I have no idea what youre looking for so Ill recomend the very versitile and my favorite the Crybaby From Hell. Stay clear of the Boss V-Wah, it sounds good on but totally castrates your tone when bypassed.

Re: Wah Shootout 2006

Get the high end version of Crybaby. And don't get the Boss wah; it's very dry--a modulation toy.

Pro Analog Supa Quack, there simply isn't anything better IMO
I just googled it. YIKES!! $275:blackeye: It better be DAMM GOOD!:eek13:
IMHO get a Dunlop GCB-95 for 69 Bucks ,Mod it or have it modded By SD97.
IMO a Wah should be used sparingly. So why go top self with a wah?

Re: Wah Shootout 2006

I used to have a V-Wah and it was okay but it crapped out on me. I'm now waiting for my 535Q to come in.

Re: Wah Shootout 2006

I own 3 Vox wahs that all have been modded by myself....My fav is the Vox 847 and then the 848 Clyde McCoy wah...I go after vintage Classic Rock wah tones of Hendrix,Clapton,Page,Beck,etc...and I find the Vox wahs after the mods always gets me there....It's best to get a used one off E Bay and then decide if the wah needs more from there? I've modded several of these Vox wahs for forum members, though I've slowed down on modding wahs lately as the components are pricey!

Listen to a wah tone you like alot and then ask us what that wah tone is..

Re: Wah Shootout 2006

For a reasonably priced wah, I like the Budda Bud Wah the best, especially since it has a nice vocal sweep, and it's true bypass for around $160.

I'm very happy with the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe, since it's got some nice frequency options and a rotary volume. The best deal is to just buy the regular Fulltone Clyde. You won't be shopping for wahs anymore if you just spring for the fulltone.

Re: Wah Shootout 2006

The sickest wha I've ever played was the first issue Dimebag Crybaby.
It just has this nasty, warm Mid/Treble cut that I've never heard any other have.

For vintage wah sounds e.g., White Room, Burning Of The Midnight Lamp, (J. Beck's) You Shook Me ... nothing beats the Teese, imo. The Pic, RMC 3 or WOF are the ones to have.

For industrial, nu-metal or whatever I suppose the others will do just fine, but for rich, vintage wah tones ... Teese is the way to go.

I had a Teese Picture Wah and I returned it because my own modded wahs with Fulltone pot and inductor and board tweaks was more vocal and had more overall wah range...I Like the WOF wah,but the RMC1 is strictly a single coil player's wah as it has alot of extra gain, output and lows....It's mud with humbuckers...

The Fulltone Clyde is better for the vintage wah tones I Mentioned above...I've been inside and have played most of the boutique wahs...YMMV?

Re: Wah Shootout 2006

I like kmc's idea, get the cheap GCB-95 and get it modded. That's what I did to mine and it sounds 100 times better than stock.

Re: Wah Shootout 2006

Weeping Demon gets my vote. I was all ready to go botique and then i got ahold of the demon. Totally floored me; had everything the others had and the ability to tweak a ton.

Every guitar player that's heard it loves the sound of it and the ability to dial it in to taste for the amp, guitar and effect.

True bypass on top of it all...and you can either use it as a switchable or just as motion...AND you can set the delay for how long it takes to turn off!

Really, the Weeping Demon is true bypass? I didn't know that! I was set to pull the trigger on the Dunlop 535Q, but I think I should take a lot at the WD too.

Re: Wah Shootout 2006

i have an original crybaby (well, the reissue). i like it, but im more after a modern type wah sound (although it does clean way sounds great).

Re: Wah Shootout 2006

I only have a few choices with the local store in my area. So I settled for the Dunlop Hendrix WAH, it cries even at high octaves. Thats my main concern. I used to own a VOX wah, not sure which model but its like purchased in 1994. Its more expensive and doesn't cry at high octaves, so I forego the VOX after that

Re: Wah Shootout 2006

I think I'm between the Weeping Demon and the Crybaby from Hell right now. I didn't know the Ibanez was true bypass, and I like its tweak-ability, but I assume the CFH is just as tweakable?

Re: Wah Shootout 2006

I think the weeping demon is a modeler wah while the CFH is a teakable crybaby, so the the demon should be more versitile. And on the bypass issue, the bypass on the dunlop is very good so buy the wah on tone and not what its gonna do when bypassed.

If it's a modeler then I've seen no mention of it being one until you stated as such.

Ibanez did a fantastic job making just about every aspect of the Demon to be tweakable. They even made it so you can adjust the tension on the actual motion of the pedal rocking back and forth to suit your needs.

Considering how many options there are I find it difficult to believe the CFH is anywhere near as tweakable while it remains in the chassis it's in.

It's funny...no one seems to like to talk about the Demon at all when it comes to high-end Wah's but I'm yet to hear anyone whose actually used one for a decent length of time NOT rave about it.

It's stupid looking...and once you get past that it's all good. As a Blues player who switches amps and guitars like socks and underwear the Demon has essentially been the reason I'll have a Wah pedal on my board at all. I got sick of having one Wah that worked really nicely for one setup but then change a single element of it and it was just god-awful.

The tweakability of the Demon was what sold me on it...make it vintage-sounding, make it modern...make it goofy and spacey and weird...have a blast with the thing!

Re: Wah Shootout 2006

Can someone tell me about their experience with the Chicago Iron Parachute Wah?

Skarey, the WD sounds awesome. Do you have any clips of how it sounds in a heavier context?
