Wah Wah, wah?

I have an old dunlop wah from the 90s, i think its the 535q or something where there is a 5 position rotator which makes it more or less high to low end sounding.
The thing may be shot though since it changes the tone a lot when not in use...anyways can anyone recommend which wah they use and why?

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

I use a Morley Bad Horsie II.

Pretty good wah, and versatile when you use the Contour mode. I really like the fact it switchless as well. Since I had a tendency to Not turnmy crybaby off after using it.

To my ear it wasn't that good for traditional clean wah tones, but that could have also been due to my guitar/amp set up as well.

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

I use a Vox... To my ears it is "softer" then the Cry Baby. It sounds better for funky rhythm and all around music IMO. Plues- it's the classic British rock, Jimi Hendrix and SRV wah: funk, classic rock, SRV, Jimi... that's where I want to be... :)

The CB has the tonality you need for metal solos and extreme metal rhythm playing.

Don't know if you can go wrong with either...

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

since i got my Morley Tremonti Power-wah i use nothing else anymore.

It has a rather classic wah sound with some more modern sounding topend. It can do anything from clean to high gain wah sounds.
There's an adjustable wah-gain boost on it that's not much used when playing clean since it just makes the sound louder, but when playing distorted lead this thing can make the notes really scream. Just great imo.

And of course i love the switchless design since i rely on very quick wah use(often on just individual short note during a solo)

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

Have any of you tried the slash wah?
When I was working at an LA music store I heard some good things from the buddha wah

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

gain = volume (as long your amp hasn't hit its stuartion point)

the tremonti wah has a boost, same as all morley power wahs

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

so the morley's have a gain boost or a clean volume boost?
Either one would be a badass option to have on tap.

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

well on clean channels the boost results in a pure clean volume boost, but on distorted channel it works as a boost for the distortion.

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

Vox 847. To me, it's the most "vocal" sounding of the non-boutique pedals. I actually also like the original Morley Bad Horsie for distorted leads, but the spring mechanism is annoying...I like to leave the wah half-way sometimes.

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

Tesse RMC 3.....cause good is good and this wah is great!

So many options, true bypass, it can sound like any vintage and modern wah out there today. GREAT, GREAT, GREAT....did I mention GREAT!

First of all and correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think those wahs have a true bypass switch inside so that when deactivated the circuit board is bypassed. That could rob some tone right there. Second of all, Dunlop has used different potentiometers in different years they manufactured the pedal. This can definitely affect the difference of tone you hear while not in/in use. Between the Crybaby and the 847 Vox, I use the Vox. Mine's been modded and is much more vocal than the stock ones, which sound good, too. I always thought the Vox sound had more color than the CB, which is what I like in my sound.
It's all a matter of taste when it comes to wahs; and it also depends on what you're using for gear and what kind of bass and trebles your rig creates - how that is affected by the addition of another modulating sound element into the mix with a bunch of components on a little circuit board your guitar's signal will go through, while on or off before hitting the amp.
Try 'em all out if you can before settling on a certain one, and take your favorite axe with you to hook up to an amp that's like yours.

just my $.02

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

and if you dump the shot CB, send it to me, I may finally have a go at modding one, see if I can make it usable.

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

F'ing expensive as hell also! :laugh2: I Like his Wizard wah the most.

Expensive but well worth it, after I bought mine I've never lacked in the wah department.

Anyone own the RMC#1?

I've played the RMC 1 when i was decideing on which to buy (I'm lucky enough to have guitar shop in town thats a Teese supplier). I tried the RMC 1 the Wiazrd wah, the Picture wah, and the RMC 3 side by side.

The RMC 1 sounds great very Hendrix/SRV like, great vocal quality...draw back - it does not respond well to humbucking pickups, and Mr. Tesse acknowledges this draw back and states that it responds better to single coil pups. It just sounded like to dark with the humbuckers.

The Wizard wah has a different sound all together, more geared toward heavier distorted sounds and works extremly well with humbuckers. Good solid choice.

The Picture wah is the daddy of all " Clyde Mccoy" wahs, this one is probably the closest wah to replicate the sound of the original wahs. If the RMC 3 didn't have all the features it has I would have gotten the Picture Wah.

And finally the RMC 3 this thing is great. Its a dounghting task to have to remove the bottom plate to acsess the controls but man you literally have control over every aspect of a wahs range, Hi/Lo/Mid/Q you can tweak the pots to affect the slightest sound. Plus it has a 7 dip switch that allows you to control the wah range, where the sound shifts in the sweep. Very cool. It also comes with 2 pages of settings you can use to get you certin sounds, it also comes with settings to emulate the RMC 1 and the Wizard, plus if you check the website and you can get other settings.

Hope this info helps!

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

Best bang for the buck is the

Ibanez WD7 Weeping Demon.

Infinitely tweakable, on/off switch on the side, OR you can set it like the Bad Horsie to come on when you step on the pedal.

I'm sure Skarey will be along with further details. He recommended it to me and I've been quite pleased with the results.

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

Depending on styles, the best vintage sounding wah out there is the Fulltone Clyde(s)...

Since I Mod my own wahs, however,I don't spend the money on the boutique stuff...My wahs sound as good as the best wahs out there today!

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

The RMC 1 wah has alot of gain and is designed for the single coil players...It sounds like pure muddy crap with humbuckers! The Picture wah is as close as you can get along with the Fulltone wahs to the early Vox Clyde tone...

The Buddah wah is really good for the money also, and vocal with good sweep..
