Im talking the JCM 800, 900, Bluesbreaker etc. You can buy them? Until I just checked their site randomly now (had a GAS 'bout) I thought they were only to be found like.. on Ebay now... but.. no.. they have a vintage section in their "Products"...

Am I crazy, or and Idiot?

Re: Wait... You can buy Marshalls?

As far as I know, the JCM 800 has been re-released with an added effects loop. It can be yours for only $2,000!!

I haven't heard about the others, though..

Re: Wait... You can buy Marshalls?

No comment. :D

Yes, you can get them, but those models you specifically layed out are reissues, and only one model from that series.

For example, in the JCM800 line, you can only buy a NEW 2203. Want a 2204 or 2210 or 2205? Gotta go used. Same with the JCM900, only the 4100 is offered NEW, and WITH 5881's. Why? I have no clue. They should've reissued it with EL34's IMO (which it had in the first 4-5 years of it's offering), or at least have reissued the MkIII or SL-X instead. The only way to get those is in the used market. The Bluesbreaker was only one model originally, if my memory serves me right.

If I was looking at getting a brand new Marshall, I'd probably look at the DSL50 first. After that, the used market for another MkIII or a JCM800 or something.

Gotta agree with Erik, the JCM900 should have been reissued with EL34's.

The Bluesbreaker should have been reissued with KT66 like the original ones had, not 5881's.

If you wanna fit kt66's in a bluesbreaker RI. The older narrower Bluesbreaker RI's requires modding of the cab because it's too shallow to fit the large kt66's but I think the newer ones will fit kt66's.

The Bluesbreaker was available in both 2x12 and 4x10 back in the day. The latter one is extremly rare these days though.

Re: Wait... You can buy Marshalls?

I rather like some of the RI's. I feel they match the old stuff IN THAT you can mod them to taste. A lot of them are one or two tweaks from being quite toneful and roadworthy amps.

Re: Wait... You can buy Marshalls?

Concidering my 80's 50 watt 800 head only cost me $500 Canadian and the new reissues of 800's are around $2500 Canadian i'll stick with my old beat up one.... i have to sink some cash in to fix it up but for the price i couldn't go wrong

Nah.. Im happy with the Traynor Blue now *twitch.. minor GAS attack*.

Though, sometime when I have a job, I was thinking.. Getting a splitter, and playing into both the Traynor and a DSL401... I personally think it would sound cool.

i'd love a 900 head in the future... now that i have an early 800 i'd like to get an early 900 too.... then a 2000 oneday too.....

Re: Wait... You can buy Marshalls?

arent 5881's interchangeable?

i know, not a marshall, but the GH50L (and i assume the 100 also) laney can run el34's or 5881's respectively, all it takes is a bias change.

5881's are electically equivalent to 6L6's so if the amp is not designed to use them from the get go, then no, they are not interchangeable with EL34's without some component (resistor) changes and a rebias. The Laney's just need the rebias like you said.

I'd love an 800 but prices are getting out of my reach. It's been a while since I've sat down with a 2000 DSL. I might have to do that again soon. Been hearing some good things about the DSL50/100 lately.

Split the signal with either a stereo chorus, reverb, or delay pedal. That would sound cool.

There is an actual bias switch at the back to switch between the 2. I dunno if further biasing would be required, im no expert! Im thinking when i need to change the tubes ill go with EL34s:banana:

ah.. allright, there we go.

Re: Wait... You can buy Marshalls?

Dude, they reissue everything these days - and if you pay enough, you can get it damn near the original 1950s specs.

In fact I think they are reissuing women from the 50s, complete with the poodle skirts, wicked curves, big breasts, and fat bottoms. If you want it to dance the dirty twist and look extra fine, well that's a boutique upgrade - the Annette Funicello mod will cost ya.

If you want different eras of Annette (Mickey Mouse Club, Beach Blanket Bingo), well that could be more than a 5 Marshall 1959HW's WITH the matching cabs.

Think about it!

Re: Wait... You can buy Marshalls?

There are a lot of great small builders that will build you exactly what you want. Better parts and lower prices if you look around.

*falls in love with Edana*

Stop subconciously linking me to things... damn GAS...

Re: Wait... You can buy Marshalls?

I used to buy JCM800 and MV JMP's for under $700 Canadian, my best one was bought for about $400. Thanks to Zakk Wylde, ANY 800 seems to be over $1000 now. Ack...
