Warm speaker

Sometimes I do not even know what I want.
I want more midrange texture without too much added brightness. If the speaker was better sounding than the one I have I could deal with a touch more brightness.

You're not an idiot buddy...You know what you want to hear with your ears and your heart, but it's hard sometimes trying to explain that in terms..There's alot of knowledgable people all over this forum and I find myself trying to ask the right questions or answering a guy's question in such a way,as to not look like an idiot..It's all good buddy..We're all learning something from each other and this is the reason I love this forum and love being a small part of it...

I've held off mentioning them up till now, because they're no longer made and expensive even used, but one "bright" speaker that sounds "warm" to my ears is the JBL K120. Very full and round, never harsh or tiring.

Re: Warm speaker

Am I the only one who loves celestion blue speakers. ??? I am not using it in a cab tho, modded my blues jr. with JJ's and that particular speaker. At high volumes that amp starts to sing!

I LOVE Celestion Blues! But I prefer them in my cathode biased Fender Amps like my late 50's tweed Fender Deluxes..tho I also use one in my '62 brown face Deluxe. I didn't like the Blue in my blackface Deluxe Reverb: to bright. Mine are actually mid 60's silver Celestion Bulldogs...but they're the speaker that the reissue Celestion Blue was based on. When it comes to more "modern" amps from 1965 on, I prefer the ceramic magnet Celestions like the G12H30. Lew

Re: Warm speaker

Celestion Blues are GREAT speakers, just not suitable for this particular application. You'd need at least four.

Re: Warm speaker

I feel better now! :D Sure Blues is not suited for this specific application, but still...

Re: Warm speaker

You guys got me all worried!
So I ran off to my JCM 800 combo
(fitted with G12M-70's) and played a few loud riffs and did some solos, and...

everything is fine.

They still sound great.

Re: Warm speaker

best bet is to take your amp to a guitar store and play thru diff speaker combinations. head for marshall and mesa boogie sections cuz those companies make alot of cabinets with diff speaker combinations that you could at least try out and hear. then look for best deal on the speakers for your own cab. at least you could possible hear before you run out and buy speakers. oh and take your own guitar too. try to limit all the variables, your guitar, your amp, a 4/12 cab with the speakers you like. after that its gunna be pretty close to the same tone you liked when you finally do this thing. good luck :fingersx: :fingersx: :fingersx:
