Re: Warmoth project done!

real nice guitar! top notch stuff. And a really well realised look, too.

Are you using black walnut in future for tonal reasons? -the last walnut guitar I played had that 70s boat anchor midrange...

I've not heard any black walnut guitars however its a commonly used wood in traditional longbow and recurve riser (handle)designs. It's favored because of its density..it transmits very little vibration/shock to the shooters hand: i.e. little resonance...exactly what you want in a bow, but not in a guitar.

EDIT: the idea being, that in a bow any felt vibration is energy that is not being transferred to the arrow..thus a bow that has a lot of vibration is inefficient.

I'd suspect as you experienced, that "denseness" would lead to a dull or extremely midrangey tone with "compressed" highs and lows.

Sweet Mercyful Fate that's hot! I'm not even a strat guy and I like it!

Re: Warmoth project done!

Jeffb... thanks im guessing?

Push... well the airbrushing ran me about $450 NZ dollars. I have a friend who paints the solid colours for me, at the right price. He is also handy with pinstriping and custom paint effects.

XXSIVE... cheers for the nice words dude!

Tone?... not sure on the weight, will give it a weigh in! guessing round 6 pounds maybe...

Re: Warmoth project done!

Seriously awesome guitar.

I cant even describe the maple neck or the engravements without using the word orgasm..

Re: Warmoth project done!

Wow! Gorgeous, I think the etching is very classy and a nice touch. Who did the body finishing? That looks superb. Good luck with everything, and if you need a beta tester this side of the pond give me a shout!!! :laugh2:

Re: Warmoth project done!

Great Ceaser's Ghost! I'm nowhere near being a metal head and I'd buy the guitar! Thats just great, looking forward to future guitars from you bro!

Re: Warmoth project done!

Wow this post is still going!:laugh2:
Thanks all, was playing the little sucker last night up against my PRS Singlecut, I was surprised to hear that it had better note definition under gain than the PRS...

JEFFB, thanks for that about the walnut, the first 6 guitars im doing are all neck-thru designs with flame maple necks, some with walnut wings, some just with figured walnut tops. Other woods are an option, guess i'll fineout how they sound when they get plugged in! Heres hoping. Will post them all on here for you boys and gals to look at, and if you want buy a few.:fingersx:

I have been searching a few "tonewood sites" and have come accross this statement which is common among most of them.

Eastern Black Walnut is a dense medium hard wood that is slightly heavier than Mahogany. Its tonal quality is warm with a growling low end and a bright top end, especially when used for bass it will really cut through in the mix. Black walnut has medium dark beautiful grain patterns and looks great with gloss or satin finishes.

Hopefully this will be the case!:fingersx: :fingersx: :fingersx: :fingersx:

Thanks for making me dig deeper, fingers crossed for the future!

Cheers Jeff!
