Warmoth Standard THin Neck Profile

..so many good necks ruined the hell out of. Probably the worst neck profile in history. They ruin all types of fantastic necks with that uber wizard crap. You just have to get your hands on one to realize that necks made for every purpose BUT shred are decimated by a super thin hand cramping profile. I myself am owner of several before I realized about it , that I'm trying to get rid of; Just awesome necks in nearly every respect totally ruined by that profile.
Tonight I had the good fortune to play 4 great old Fender Strats; '57/58/63/64 Vintage Fender Strat, and the real beauty is the fat full C-neck profiles bigegr than modern C profiles by a fair amount..a joy to hold and play , and with indomitable tone. Thats what a Start neck is supposed to be. What an abomination the Warmoth Std. Thin Profile is! The radius of the old Start deosn't bother me in the least with a neck that full, although I didnt "like" ( ha it was killer)the '64 at all cause of the very small frets, and it didnt sound near as good as the others, nor play as well.It also didnt have the super tonality of the others. The 57 ( beyond belief in tone and playabilty-Hello Eric) and the 58 were the most amazing things in the world, and the 63 was stupendous in sound and played amazingly well .
Can I get a witness?

It's not that close to a wizard, more like a Jackson. I like the 59 roundback better though.

Re: Warmoth Standard THin Neck Profile

So what you're saying is that you bought a bunch of necks with an inappropriate profile for you, and are now complaining about the fact?

Just checking...

Obviously everyone in the world has exactly the same hand size as Jerry.

Re: Warmoth Standard THin Neck Profile

I'll bet Warmoth are kicking themselves for not knowing that - they could have saved themselves a fortune in set-up costs...

I dont think they will be too bothered - he already bought plenty of them anyway. Maybe his hands changed size during the night?

Re: Warmoth Standard THin Neck Profile

if the profile is so terrible, they wouldn't sell it at all, and it would be economically feasible to just discontinue the neck, or change the 'standard' shape. don't you think?

I have 6 standard thin-necks, and it started to grow on me. it's nice to change up the super-fat necks with medium thin every now and then. And besides, it's not that thin. my '76 gibson LP custom has a pencil-thin neck compared to the standard thin warmoth-necks. same goes for my strat, my other gibson LP and my custombuild LP standard '59 inspired by Bolan.

Re: Warmoth Standard THin Neck Profile

"standard thin" is no where even close to an Ibanez Wizard....

Re: Warmoth Standard THin Neck Profile

But YOU GUYS the TOOONZ is in the THICK NECK WOODZ.
Even the Interwebs knows that.

Sheesh.

Re: Warmoth Standard THin Neck Profile

I always just assumed that Standard Thin was roughly the same profile as a regular Strat neck or something. I guess I'm wrong?

No, you are correct...

The "standard thin" is your basic Fender shape. Hell even the "boat neck" is only 1" (think '52 reissue Tele).

Re: Warmoth Standard THin Neck Profile

1" is plenty thick. i made a neck thats 1.12" thick and its HUGE, like barely playable. 1" is comfortable for me, a little extra makes a big difference.

all those old strat necks im sure have had refrets and id guess the radius is flatter than when they were new. i have a '62 fender neck and its the smallest thing i own. feels like a toy compared to the fat back. old stuff is all over the place

Re: Warmoth Standard THin Neck Profile

Their 1" boat profile is my favorite. Got that on my frankenstrat's neck. Just super comfortable with the compound radius.

I like the modern Fender profile too so the Standard Thin wouldn't be a problem for me.

As for tone, there's more to the tone than the neck. My SG Jr. has a 60's slim neck yet sounds massive. My buddy's Les Paul has the 60's slim and it sounds massive too. Can't forget to take the guitar body in to account as well.

Just preference, that's all. There's nothing wrong with the Standard Thin.

*Jerry, pay attention to your spellchecker. It's STRAT, not START!

Re: Warmoth Standard THin Neck Profile

I happen to like the Warmoth Standard/Thin... I've got 3 of their necks...and no, it's NOT as thin as a wizard neck..IIRC they offer that profile too, though..

Re: Warmoth Standard THin Neck Profile

They offer a Wizard profile and the Standard Thin isn't even close to it. My personal favorite is the Fatback (1" from nut to butt), and I have a '59 that'll be going on a new guitar soon.

Re: Warmoth Standard THin Neck Profile

I'm just wondering when Jerry is actually going to be able to spell Strat correct.

Re: Warmoth Standard THin Neck Profile

HA!

id have to have some of that for it to be true

lol. my favorite necks are 1.2 and 1.3 inches. yeah, really. and those necks played awesome. 1 inch is getting a bit thin, nowadays. I have to admit, though, that 1 inch with a 1 3/4'' nut, it's just too much. 1 11/16'' is just fine though :)
