Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

Re: Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

I'd definitely go for a trans purple on that beast. I'm planning on do a trans purple King V build sometime soon.

Flamey trans-purple with Gold hardware. Tasty!

Re: Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

I just taped up the binding, and I'm getting ready to trim it back with a razor blade. I hope it goes well.

Well, that went a hell of alot better and easier than I thought it would. The razor blade just kind of followed the binding. It's not perfect, but it's not horrible either. It really shouldn't matter too much because I'm just going to throw down a dark layer of purple to make the flame pop.

I decided against going with the black dye first to make the flames pop. I decided that I think what I'm going for will call for a darker purple to make the flames pop. Hopefully what I'm seeing in my head is going to be correct...lol.

Time to go test my color on an old guitar body to see how it will look.

These were taken inside the house:

These were taken outside just after the staining:

Now, I will be sanding pretty much all of that off. The grain that is "popped" shall remain, and I will restain it once again.

The guitar looks great but I don't know about them kids. I kid I kid. Looking good.

Re: Well, I'm Going To Attempt My First Guitar Assembly

The dye is pretty much dried up and ready for it's sanding tommorrow. After that I will dye/stain it once again. The grain should really be popping after that.

I'll take the frog tape off and re-apply it over the binding. After that I will sand down the finish, and then re-apply the stain/dye once again.

Im really surprised how great that turned out-especially for you first effort. It looks great so far! I thought I wouldnt like Purple, but I do, for sure. What kind/brand of satin? You got me wanting to try somthing like that

Thanks, Jerry.....I appreciate that, especially since we're both idiots. I used the Transtint Dyes.

They are both water soluble (which is the way I did it) as well as they can be used with alcohol.
