well, the 1-watt JCM800's have landed

Re: well, the 1-watt JCM800's have landed

I thought the class 5 was a bloody rip off in its original form.

These are worse. makes me ashamed to be British....

don't get me wrong, as collectibles, yeah, as usuable amps, I'm starting to raise questions.

I figured someone here took one home and made sweet love to it...guess not! rats, I was hoping for a forum member clippy.

Some strong opinions though! Interesting the combo sounded yucky. The lead 12 is sorta like that - great amp, with a halfway decent cab that is.

I don't get it with these amps. I have a TT and it sounds great but even with what I consider pretty big iron for a 15 watt amp, it doesn't fill out the bottom end very well. I haven't tried one, but I can only imagine these 1 watt amps sound thin and have ZERO in the balls department.

Seems like an easy misconception to make. From what I've hard (yet to play), the Blackstar HT series can get some serious tones, far detached from what you'd associate with a "little amp". Just IMO of course

I got one of my class 5 heads for $349 brand new and the other $275 used in excellent condition. Pretty cool deals IMO

I'm sure they're really cool, and I know it's a different animal and some just prefer the Marshall tone, but for that kind of money you can easily find a used mini-recto. Or a multitude of other lower wattage amps with more features. But they won't be Marshalls, which will be the tipping point for some people. The power of a brand can be very very strong.

I was a little bit geeked on the JMP, im not working so $800 is out of the question. So i played the marshall haze 40 watt I pretty much like it, great cleans and nice overdrive. I was kinda itching for that marshall and I seen it at GC and played it and then played it cranked in the sound room, sounded good. SO my nice girl friend flipped the bill for now, I have 30 days to decide.

Re: well, the 1-watt JCM800's have landed

Played one at GC today. Ok, was kinda fun; sounded "small" but usable. Had to dime all the eq knobs to make it shine. Price way off for what it sounded like. Not really enough gain on tap. Easy to walk away from.

Then tried a blackstar - much more versatile, covered the same territory then some, much better price.

Then tried a used jtm60 1x12 combo...and almost put it on layaway, hehe. Had to call ayrton and have him talk me off the ledge. They had it priced high & wouldn't budge, but I dug the size, sound, features. The reliability concern is scary, but it was the tone I seek.

Man I just cruised thru the TO (Ventura Co) Craigslist, and it is a pot of gold compared to what we have (had).

Just save cash now until Dec, and start looking for some deals. Gonna be a whole lotta folks looking for some Santa cash.

Re: well, the 1-watt JCM800's have landed

sounds like these are a very pricey novelty instead of a real sounding JCM800. That correct??

Re: well, the 1-watt JCM800's have landed

For $700 you can easily pick up a real 800 2204, throw a 12au7 in the phase inverter to help manage the volume and rock out with your glock out...
