Well, this sucks... (someone smart please help)

Re: Well, this sucks... (someone smart please help)

which diagram did you use for this? I know there's two out there and one of them allegedly doesn't work. I'll go look at my website for a schematic that Robert_S. sent me one time.

Maybe a little obvious, but did you ground the volume pot's 3rd (ground) lug?? I found without it grounded, the volume just rolled off highs/gain.

you'll need to go to www.guitarelectronics.com to get the color codes for converting Gibson to Duncan.

Scott, I've got the original (via Robert also),plus I've got a correctly pictorial (the one that was wrong, but I corrected in), beautifully laid out if i do say so myself.I can send it via e-mail in a compressed folder ... didn't I send you a copy? I way to big to post screen wise, and if I shrink it ... well you can't see everything well. I'll send the compressed folder your way, check it, and if you've got the pictorial layout then just delete it,Cory I can send you one also, but you'll have to leave an e-mail address on my PM.

I haven't looked at this closely yet, but here's the file that Kent just sent me. It's about 300k in size.

Thanks Kent.

My pleasure, also Scott, you'll notice that i do go an *houseclean* my stuff after it's been up (reduce server load) for a while , by jerking it down... see I was listening when the board first got back up ... :laugh2:
I would encourage others to do the same as well per Scott's original request, some with cleaning out your PM boxes. Thanks Scott! :cool3:

OK. Turns out i was using silver-bearing solder used for jewelry. Not good.

I took everything completely apart and checked them with a meter. The pots all read about 460k. Capacitors worked. Everything stil goood.

I wired everything back up. It works BETTER than it did before, but stil SUCKS.

Still a hum, (a grounding problem i know). The output is stil VERY low. Jeremy, yes it does get quieter when the coils are tapped. It seems to get louder when phase is reversed. neck series with bridge SUCKS. It's quiet, and it just does not sound good at all.

I've checked everything over and over. This REALLY f*ckin sucks.

I guess conclusion, i just suck at wiring. Should i take it to a tech?

If it gets louder when you reverse phase you definitely have things wired incorrectly. You also mention the hum stops when you touch the jack. The hum stops because you are completing the path to ground. You have something seriously miswired.
