cool! I hope they didn't come just like that without any padding in the boxes....

Re: WGS Veteran 30s are here!

I just put a pair in my Friend's JCM800 combo and they sound incredible. You're gonna love 'em:14:

And yes, they came very well padded.

^ good to hear! got worried for a sec that fedex might drop and damage them :\

Well, they'll probably drop it somewhere along the line, but hopefully nothing gets damaged.

That was a classic. Haha!

I actually am not sure how well padded it was because I was piggybacking on a friend's shipment, so she might have pulled out the pads and stuff. Nwy, it's in great shape when I opened it up, so I have no complains.

Anybody know what those rubber/felt-like, arching thingies with holes in it are?

I had that happen when I bought 8 1976 Blackbacks (Greenbacks). dude shipping them put them all in a box with only styrofoam peanuts! Four of the speakers got punctured cones. I got reimbursed from insurance, but I would rather have all 8 of those Blackbacks. :(

In any case, I have heard lots of good things about the WGS stuff. Im thinking about ordering some Reapers or ET65s

And they're in!

Man these speakers are bright! I haven't played them dirty and at volume yet, but whoa, they're bright! And they're also a LOT louder than those re-coned G12-65s!

I got them wired in parallel.

Re: WGS Veteran 30s are here!

I like how the WGS come with painted frames, whereas the more expensive Celestions come raw. I doubt I'll ever buy a Celestion again.

That's some phatty speaker wire, there, bro!

Re: WGS Veteran 30s are here!

Yeah, I was looking for 16 or 18awg speaker wires, but the good ones (better brands) were 12 and 14awg only.

Here they are side by side...

Re: WGS Veteran 30s are here!

I just had a good 2 hours playing the JCM800 with the pre-amp volume dimed and using the MXR ZW OD to get it into metal territory.

The amp is a lot BRIGHTER now and a lot LOUDER. It seems to be a lot more RESPONSIVE that what I remembered my amp to be. I see a more dramatic change in character, tone when I go from my Gibson LP Studio to Washburn MG90. The Washburn had a Duncan JB in it and the amp seems to have this top end "sizzle", kinda like some fuzz on top. The LP Studio still had the stock Gibson 498/490 pups and it didn't have this sizzle, or at least not as much. This is amp is very "glam rock" in tone, but warms up a notch with a LP.

I'm going to try to put more playing hours on it next weekend, and hopefully, more volume.

Rock on!

Re: WGS Veteran 30s are here!

Glad that you like them! I'm loving my Retro 30's, so it's good to hear other people are liking their WGS stuff too. Great company and great products. Like you said, it really does get a lot louder, but that's good! :D

Re: WGS Veteran 30s are here!

I didn't find them overly bright in my friend 's Marshall. Keep playing them, they are the best speakers I've heard.
