Lots of players think that because the distortion is there they have to use it..... ALL of it.....

Distortion is good for actually thickening up your tone,problem is,if you go crazy you can actually hide behind the distortion and lose your note articulation.In early stages of playing,people use the distortion and tones of different types of effects as a crutch.I've found that the less gain or distortion I use,the better player I have become.In fact I actually play very clean most of the time now if I just plug a guitar in and pretty much play stuff like "Sultans Of Swing" or something clean...I've really got to retain note clarity in my playing or it drives me crazy! I just can't have muddy notes and chords..It's hard to get great tone all the time,but I'm always working towards it! :13:
