Re: What amp do you use for gigs?
One of my five Mesa amps:
Small gigs, a DC-3 combo; or a Mesa Maverick 212 combo. I have a 112 Theile cab to use with the DC-3, and I have a Recto 212 cab to turn the Maverick into a half-stack.
For the Medium gigs, mostly a Mesa Mark IV 112 EVM combo, or a Mark III Simul-Class 112 EVM combo. Both of these have a matching 112 EVM Theile cab.
For Big gigs, where I need to level entire city blocks, I have a Mesa Mark III Coliseum head with a 412 Mesa Half-back cab with C90s/EVMs. This is a glorius sounding amp and its probably my favorite. Unfortunately, my band doesn't do a lot of gigs where I can use this.
Most of the time, I like the versatility of the Mark IV, but they have about 2,000 knobs and switches. The Mark IIIs are easier to get a good tone from, and less fussy; though once the Mark IV is set right, it is also a gem.
I have a lot of versatility with these amps, and the Mesas are perfect for the many different styles I cover in my band.
