Re: What amp should I buy?

Traynor YCV50Blue 50 Watt 1x12” Combo. Guitar Player had some good things to say about it last month. 50 watts is plenty. If this band you're trying to get into defines tone purely in terms of watts, they need educatin'. Your tone will be better than his Crate full stack, even if it is coming out of a little (OK, medium-sized) blue box. Add a cab later if you really need it to look more "rock". Then, be happy when you don't have to move the whole rig when you don't feel like it.

Re: What amp should I buy?

Aright sounds interestin' now, do they make it in any other color, cos' my axes are red and black. And do they make a higher wattage like 80, or 60 (okay, so I'm giving up my dream of a really big Amp).

Re: What amp should I buy?

Careful, there son. You're talking to someone with an unnatural attraction for blue amplifiers. Actually, it's pretty dark blue. I suggested the Traynor because GP mentioned that it's versatile - it's not just a "classic Fender combo" kind of amp. It can be dialed in for pretty heavy overdrive, and I believe it's got fairly wide-ranging EQ, so it'll do a lot of different sounds.

I really don't think you'll need more power. Try one, you'll see.

Re: What amp should I buy?

yea, I hate getting crap for that too.:gurmpy: You sure its got enough power? Like, I need superior tone with both my strat, and my schecter A-1, and i need to fill a huge, barn-like space, with the sounds of high voltage rock.

Re: What amp should I buy?

100w - been there done that. Never played anywhere that needed that volume. 30w Kay tube amp I had in High School was enough for playing school auditorium and church hall gigs. But without that 4x12 stack I felt inadequate. Got one and soon discovered 100w was way too much.

My Peavey Classic 30 with another 12" external speaker will sound loud outdoors.

I read an article in the past year about the care and feeding Malcom and Angus Young of AC/DC go thru with their old 50w Marshall heads. I think they play bigger venues than barns.

Dude you just made my sig.....bwahahah:laugh2:

Re: What amp should I buy?

You should buy whatever amp in the less than 100 watt range speaks to you the most. As already stated, and I agree, you don't need 100 watts. Yeah I know, my sig has one listed. I've had mine for almost 10 years and I love the tone, it's the only amp I have that'll keep up and I can't afford the less than 100 watt amp that I want (Zinky Blue Velvet). I use my 100 watter to jam with my brother-in-law (who plays drums) only. At home it's the Crate GX-15.

I can just about guarantee you that you'll be playing this at home 90% of the time. Take one of both of your guitars, head to a music store and start playing anything and everything under 100 watts. Only then will you know what sounds good to you and fits your style.

Re: What amp should I buy?

Ha ha! This guy is awesome! I run a 40 watt combo and it could blow you clean off your feet if I wanted it to. You dont need 100watts. Wattage doesnt have a great effect on overall volume anyway. With a 100 watt amp being only about 3 dB louder than a 50watt amp of the same design.

If they make a "School of Rock" II, this line HAS to be in it. I can imagine Jack Black screaming this at the salesman or whoever. Dude, that is the coolest thing I've ever heard, LOL.

This is "Motorboy29's Law"

In 1985 we were doing an auto parts inventory and we were supposed to toss all the old stuff. Everybody was wasting time trying to clarify if a part was old or not and we weren't getting anything done. That's when I invoked "Mario's Law" which I have to give credit to one of my co-workers for recognizing this law and thusly naming it, or it would have been lost forever. I now do that for Motorboy. My law by the way was "If it looks new, it is new! If it looks old, it is old!"

I thought that was the coolest until now.

Re: What amp should I buy?

well, thank you gentlemen. So, how do I fill some like a barn or a church with sound, and not get any breaks crackles?

If you would take the 'bitch' out of your location, then people wouldn't give you ****, so you wouldn't be pissing and moaning about it because nobody's giving you **** about it, therefore you dont have to put 'bitch' in the location, because nobody gives you ****. Problem solved.

Re: What amp should I buy?

woah, i just went to musiciansfriend.com YOU CAN GET A CRATE HALF-STACK FOR 500$ that is what I meant when I said a A REALLY BIG amp. I want an amp that has balls. I want an amp, that when I joke to someone that its about to blow up, they start to run. There's a reason I chose Motorboy as my screen name (for those of you who dont know your rock history, its a tribute to Motorhead). This is a band whos slogan is "Everything louder than everything else" another great roch slogan is "If you cant be good, at least be loud" Im not all that good of a guitar player...

So I have to be really focking loud
