So, I'm looking to chunk the cheap-O guitar cables & step up to the top shelf stuff.
What brand(s) do I need to look at & why do you personally like the brand(s) you are recommending?
Thanks :)

I use Pig Hog, Planet Waves and some Bill Lawrence cables- those are thin, like George L's.

I use Mogami. Occasionally some old LIfelines if I don't have Mogami cables with me. I used George L's for patch cables for a while, but for some reason the whole thing sounded thinner. The sound opened up just be using other normal patch cables instead.

I use George L's. I have a spool and a bunch of plugs and make my own to whatever length I need.

Make little short ones for my pedal boards and longer ones too.

Eric Johnson uses them.

Eddie Van Halen used them.

They're low capacitance and I think they help retain clarity and highs.

Most "better" cables sound fine to me. I bought three or four different brands as an experiment a couole years ago and my picky ears don't hear any difference between them but they all sound noticeably better than lower-tier cables. Mogami are a safe bet.

I've been using Spectraflex and Mogami for years. Love 'em! I've got a few others as well, a Pig Hog with my bass rig and Rapco for as a backup. On my pedalboard I have some from pedalsnake.com that I ordered at the same time I ordered the snake. Might get a few more but in 1 foot lengths. My smaller pedalboard has some heavy duty Fender patch cables on it.

I've yet to find anything that sounds better, in real use, than Planet Waves' Custom Series and not only are they fairly cheap but, most importantly, they're absolutely everywhere, always in stock, and have a better-than-average warranty with great customer service. The #1 thing with cables is dependability and consistency, both in terms of the quality of the cable itself and also the ability to get a 1:1 replacement at short notice with no fuss. Some studio gremlins may (think they) hear a stronger or cleaner signal coming out of a more expensive cable, but I've never spotted it in a live situation and I've had too many fancy, expensive and/or custom cables break mid-show (both as a performer myself and when running house) with no exact back-ups to hand that I simply see no point in bothering with anything that can't be easily stocked up on. Maintaining your connection between your guitar, pedals, amp and speakers is more important than eking out that last 0.1% of your signal. All the venues around here keep a meaty supply of Planet Waves Custom Series on hand, all the shops stock 'em, and they're what I use myself. I've had others of many different brands and (alleged) qualities and nothing beats the dependability of the Planet Waves Custom.

Any cable with a lifetime replacement guarantee that I might actually take advantage of (meaning here one that I can swap out locally, vs filing a customer service complaint and then mailing it somewhere) is the best cable.

I've used George Ls, Mogami, and a whole lot of really crap cables too. Honestly, I like planet waves the best. They don't do anything bad to the way your guitar sounds, they're not too expensive, they last pretty well, and you can always find them in a music store. What's not to like?

Had REALLY good luck with both Mogami and Pig Hog. I avoid Monster as they last forever but have had some weird issues with the couple I have owned with microphonics to the extreme with high gain amps.

These days, most cables have lifetime warranties. Just avoid any with molded ends, spend $20 or more, and you will be fine.

I've been using Pig Hog all year per Mincer's suggestion, with no complaints at all. I also have a couple cheaper Amboz cables from China that have been great so far also.

Well, I guess I ****ed up this thread because I didn't specify that I am looking for cables that are durable, that will last a long time, that won't give me grief from some ****ty connection, etc.

I really could care less about the bright, the mid, the whatever signal, stuff that only Eric Johnson might claim he can tell is slightly different in some sonic regard with his hearing perception.

So, my bad; I'm looking for the most durable, most dependable cables out there. My bad for not being specific.
