what are your indispesable effects/gear?

Re: what are your indispesable effects/gear?

i almost always have a Boss Flanger or Chorus in my set ups....

not an effect but i almost always use the Boss Line Selector pedal with most of my set ups

Re: what are your indispesable effects/gear?

I have a question for you, Why the obsecion with Tubes? is for the falic symbol?

PD: and why would any one need a tuner, you already have an ear, use it.

PD2: oh I remember, a tuner for "in midle of a show" tuning, never happened to me tough

speaking for myself i need a tuner for gigging... my hearing is shot from high volume abuse.. when i was gigging too loud my hearing used to get numb and almost shut off... lots of ringing in my ear after gigs... during gigs i used to get weird and distorted sounds and my ears change the pitch of the music in loud settings which is freakin awful... one gig i did i kept trying to tune my axe and it never sounded in tune all night... it was my bad hearing...

i protect my ears more now then i ever have but hitting middle age now i have to be extra carefull

Maybe you should wait until you play a show before you make such comments

Maybe you should wait until you've been here a while before you make condescending comments about forums members gear choices as well.

Re: what are your indispesable effects/gear?

i'm still trying to imagine any pro band out there tuning up by ear before and between songs... "Hello Cleveland!!! thanks for coming... excuse us while we tune". the techs at pro shows are using great quality tuners..... i don't think i'd every show up to a gig without a tuner....

Tube amps sound a lot better than non-tube amps...you oughta try one out, see what the fuss is.

I mean you said you use a few pedals for distortion...every single distortion pedal you'll ever play (ever) is a small circuit board trying to reproduce the sound of a tube amp pushed into natural tube overdrive. Maybe you'd trust your amp more if it had some tubes in it...ha

and uh yeah. your ear isn't even as dependable as those $15 Korg tuners...so uh...of course you need one.

I have a question for you: Do you play the guitar?

Re: what are your indispesable effects/gear?

I want to know what tipe of effects you consider indispensable in your set up or in any decent set up, like the compressor, fuzz, overdrive, chorus etc.
then put your choice of that effects.
I start:
Overdrive- because I dont trust in my amp that much:ninja:
Reverb- because make me sound like I can fill the stage on my own
Chorus- you just need It
Wha Wha- a must
Delay- for the slap-back

and my like in this efects is, a Jekyll & hyde for overdrive, the holy grial for reverb, super chorus boss, Dunlop crybaby wha and a digital delay boss.

PD: this is the list of your must or Indispensable effects, I have a Phaser that I like very much but I can live without It

For me, I'll go from one to more pedals, in the order I would buy them in. This is assuming I have a Fender Pro Junior (i.e. no amp-based tremolo, reverb, nothing) and that I'm not buying an ME-50 :D.

1) BOSS BD-2 Blues Driver. I can play the blues about having one pedal :D
2) BOSS OD-3 Overdrive (since the OD-1 is rare and the OD-2 isn't sold new iirc)
3) BOSS DD-7 (analog delay, for reverb and other fun things)
4) BOSS CE-5 Chorus Ensemble (my first love)
5) BOSS TR-2 Tremolo
6) Tube Screamer (vintage reissue pref...)
7) Crybaby Wah

Of course, I've never been in the market for individual stomps, since I have an ME-50, so this isn't a hard-and-fast list. I haven't been shopping much. I should try that out some time, but not until my ME-50 dies.

So, I see someone dont like the freudian jokes, I think that I went too far with the ear joke, but I still Think is funny (I am not a Charly Garcia myself also). And I didnt make any condescending coment, only an apreciation

Well this is what I call pseudoflamehatepost, but I like the Humor. I almost laugh with the tube joke for the ironic, I have a valvetronix with a tube in it (most for the looks than for the sound un this case), and of course I havent had a tube amp, they are far out of my budget (the only ones that i ve seen was like 1000 or 1500 dollars)

That question about the guitar was laking any kind of fundaments and reasons, simply rude .
I play in stages... pub´s stages mostly and without the "hello Cleveland!" attitude, and I havent had problems with tunning (paranoic as I am) at least nothing that we cant solve.
now you can call me :lame: because I went off topic.

back to the topic, if you look almost all agree in having a chorus-delay-wha in the set up. curious dont you think?

PD: exept Mr. EP he is for the raw rock sound :rambo:, very brave if you ask me

I'll call those two comments comment 1 and comment 2....

1) Comment 1: Playing a show doesn't really mean much. I was paid for piano playing before I was truly worthy of credibility. I was paid for playing guitar before I was truly worthy of credibility too :D Any fool can eventually find a gig. Now, playing a gig and being called back, that would be more difficult I think :D

2) There are plenty of people on here that would be affected by comments 1 and 2, so much so that no newbies could post, and several of us would probably get shut out. That's not really fair. I hear people bash Fender amps, Stratocasters, modeling amps, solid state amps, etc, you name it, so I don't think this forum (being on the internet: a place filled with such comments) is immune, unfortunately. Learn to ignore such comments. There's always someone who's going to hate your gear. Take it from someone who also needs to learn to ignore such comments: me. I ain't perfect either.

Now, back to the topic, since I didn't really answer it properly: the Blues Driver (or, since I don't own one, the Boss ME-50). I can use it to get all the way to classic rock, and if I change gear (like amp) I can use it as a volume boost. I have always liked how this pedal sounds.

1) Theres experiences that can only be understood from playing a gig. Until your on stage, can't hear yourself due to bad monitors and have a rather ugly crowd, you simply can't realize how tuning by ear will not work.

2) Theres a world of difference between not liking a peice of gear and making inappropriate comments towards someones sexual preference on this forum and I would like to thing that any and all forum brothers here know that lines and would respect one another.

Sad to see you don't share those views. What makes this forum great, and far better than so many others on the net is the since of community and respect fellow memebers share.

The sheer fact you'd rather stick up for some newbie making insulting comments towards one of your forum brothers is dishearting.

I wasn't defending him, just pointing out that those views aren't very realistic. Still, yes, he was a newbie, he was annoying, etc, but he apologized. I think this was just a mutual misunderstanding. Still, what does make this forum a great place is respect. If someone else doesn't have respect, just ignore 'em, man. It's not worth your time. I know my time is better spent with family and with guitar.... :D

And yes, you need a tuner. And yes, he shouldn't've said rude things just because he wasn't into their gear.

Can't we all just have a beer now? :D

Re: what are your indispesable effects/gear?

there is a blues/rock legend here in Ontario called David Wilcox.... this guy plays some pretty fun boogie music that has been in every Canadian bar i'm sure at one point.... the man is still playing and saw him again last year sometime... i've seen him lots of times... always has a really old Tele that i think is from the 50's... in it it has 4 PU's!!! the stock tele stuff plus a Grestch and a humbucker in the middle... he plays thru a Marshall 2000 series amp and just hits the gas..

he uses his tuner like a whammy bar... changes open tunings on the fly and it's a real sight to see... i don't think he'd ever need a tuner after seeing him play!!!! he is just about the only one i've ever seen like that

Re: what are your indispesable effects/gear?

I always need one heavy distortion pedal. I have 26 ods, dists, and fuzzes, but as long as I have one, I'm ok. My favorite is the Boss MD-2. To me that is the one do-it-all drive box.

How does he screw it into the little threaded hole?

While I'm in your position... Have you ever heard of the Fender Blues Junior? Pro Junior? Champ 600? Blackheart Little Giant and Handsome Devil 1x12 combo's? Epiphone Valve Junior? Orange Tiny Terror?

Any of those amps cost under 500$.

Re: what are your indispesable effects/gear?

yeah, some said to me that in the forums no one try to understan each other.
1) sexual preferences!!!!!!!!! are you mad!!!!! do you know what a freud joke is?!! I apologise if you see in that way, but seriously if this wasnt the internet (where everything can be misunderstood) I would ask you to apologize.
2) Millsart you should apologize to Twinreverb, he was triying to calm down the thread that is not dishearting (¿descorazonador?)
3) I ve played Live but in small locations (gig is like a tour?)
4) I wasnt being rude and I wasnt unrespectfull, for the love of god it was a freudian joke and I already explain about the ear joke (this wasnt happened if this forum were in spanish or portugese or italian, but english is the new latin)
5) I have a tuner, I just dont think is impresindible cause I leave it in home
6) what makes a newbie being a newbie, It means that you know something that I dont? Time is the best teacher, but has the flaw of killing his students

Millsart, sorry for the point 1 2 an 6, I think they would be misunderstood. But, hey if we were in the same continent I would pay the beers :beerchug: (but don abuse)
you can call me :lame:, because I went off topic for second time.

Back to the topic, lets take this to extreme, if you can only take one effect with you (beside the amp and the guitar) what will be.

I would have to say....:banghead:..... the jekyll & hyde (a hard choice, try yourselfs)

PD: the Fender Blues Junior? Pro Junior? Champ 600? Blackheart Little Giant and Handsome Devil 1x12 combo's? Epiphone Valve Junior? Orange Tiny Terror?.... do you live in chile?... but thanks, I always thought that the tubes werent a thing that a literature student could afford

it's not easy to get the bar in there :)

seriously this guy uses the standard vintage Fender tuners on his Tele axe for EVH style Floyd sounding dives... it's insane and he brings it back in tune in seconds!!!

In theory, if you continue to save up money, you should some day be able to afford one (if you want one).

Re: what are your indispesable effects/gear?

For me two pieces a good Fender Prosonic and a nice USA Washburn MG. The Prosonics I have not been without at least one in several years now and play them exclusively. The 94-96 MG series USA Washburns I keep coming back to and now own 8.
I have a George Dennis wah a Monti Allums mod Boss CS-3 compressor a good delay and a Rocktron Deep Blue chorus on both my pedal boards but can pretty much do any show without any effects if I have the Prosonic and a MG.
