What are your thoughts on an amp supposedly not working...but it works?

I sold a Bogen CHB 35 (thought it was a 50) on eBay. When the buyer got it, he said the volume was low, then going low then high, then it was fine, then it cut in and out again so he sent it back and I refunded his money. I got it back and played it for about an hour that day, three or so hours the next, a few hours yesterday--no problems. Sounds great, loud as heck. Do you guys think he just regretted buying it and came up with a story? I'd hate to sell it again and have some poor guy have problems. I'd rather keep the amp. Honestly though between the new Marshalls I got and my beloved Univox U45B, I never play the Bogen.

Has this ever happened to you? It's a shame that the amp is just sitting, but I don't want someone stuck with something either. How long would you play it before you decided that there's no problems?

It does sound like buyers remorse 75. Stick it up on Craigslist and keep it local. Then if a buyer doesn't like it, you can go hear the issue.

Hi, I had a similar problem a few years ago and it was down to the effects loop. I can't remember if it was the send or the return that was causing the problem, all I had to do was clean the jack sockets as it was just dirt or grime. I've also heard of other amps having similar probems and it was down to the NEW owner using the effects loop where the original owner had never used it! Worth checkin this out. Hope this helps, all the best

A while back I had an older ampeg SS amp, and I loaned it to a buddy of mine. He had it for like 6 months, and then called one day an said he'de blown the speaker an offered to replace it. So I of course I let him.

So he brings the amp over with the blown speaker, an I checked it out and the speaker was indeed blown, didn't produce any sound, gave no reading with a multimeter and failed the battery test (where ya touch the speaker terminals with the terminals on a 9volt, an if the speaker still works It'll make a popping noise). So we went to a shoppe an bought a new speaker. Then we ended up doing something else that day and I didn't get around to putting the new speaker in, and just totally forgot about it.
A few months later I went to use the amp again, and immediately after turning it on, remembered the speaker was blown. So I set down the guitar (which was plugged in) planning to turn the amp off and put the new speaker in, but in setting the guitar down, I brushed the strings lightly with my hand, And The speaker was suddenly makeing noise again. And the speaker seemed totally fine for as long as I had the amp after that. And I'm possitive it was blown when my buddy brought it back.

Strange stuff happens sumtimes. Maybe the dude was actually having a problem with it, maybe not. Maybe the amp just missed you and was acting up so that he'de send it back to you, haha, who knows?

Well, the amp doesn't have an effects loop as it's a mid 60s amp so that's not it. I do appreciate the input as that's a common problem.

Yes, this amp misses me, lol. This amp is my stalker! I actually had it sold last year, but the replacement tranny blew RIGHT AFTER THE GUY WON THE AUCTION! I had the original 8 ohm transformer replaced with one that had three taps for 4,8,16. That one worked fine for years, but literally the day the auction ended, it blew. I had the original put in but the buyer needed that 16 ohm tap so he didn't take it. Worked fine for eight months or so until I sold it last month, then this. Crazy stuff.
