what are your thoughts on this

For the last years I’ve been kind of disconnected from all these namm things and new stuff coming out.

I Just found an old guitar world issue from last July and found this. I am curious about your thoughts and comments.

I think it could be interesting.

Regardless, Fender's forays into technological innovation always seem smarter and more usable than Gibson's idiocy.

Re: what are your thoughts on this

Not tried one yet. This, in itself, is significant. It suggests that I feel no great urge to find one to check out.

This being a forum for pickup and guitar wiring maniacs. I suspect that the majority prefer to make their own custom circuits rather than pay extra for somebody else's idea of what we "ought" to want.

Re: what are your thoughts on this

It's probably nice for someone who doesn't want to do their own wet work or who just wants to be able to swap among different configurations on the fly.

Re: what are your thoughts on this

I've yet to find information on what 3 wiring configurations are provided.

I'm interested to know what you are referring to that Gibson have done, because many of their ideas were very clever, as with Fender

Perhaps it will come and go and become 'collectable'.

Hands on promo/demo here:

Coil taps and on board boost, ok.
Mechanical auto-tune on the headstock, epic fail.

Then there is this monstrosity:

Mechanical auto-tune, if you mean Robot, Dark Fire etc, you should search Tronical components. It was all invented by a German, Chris Adams who now makes them for almost any guitar. Cost is the killer. I fitted a set to a strat copy and they work great, I would put them on all the guitars I build if I could.
Firebird. LOL, you win there no doubt.
Humbuckers, Recording guitars, great inventions.

Have you seen the Peavey at 200? Electronic auto tune.

I remember a thread on this about a year back.. And most of us including me showed no interest in this.

Re: what are your thoughts on this

I think it is en excellent idea. Problem is that while works passively and analog (vintage tech, compatible with purism dogma), most ppl think it goes against purism, hence they convince themselves that they dont like it.
Hot rodders have devoted whole sites on wiring for many decades, this thingy solves all this in a most elegant design. I would not get it, since i cannot afford buying any new strats (since money goes to Ibanez these days), but if i was to get smth from Fender this would be a must-have.

Re: what are your thoughts on this

IMHO, it's a crutch for those that don't know any better.

I don't understand this line of thinking. Believe it or not, but the majority of guitar players out there do not want to mod their own guitars, or spend the money to have their guitars modded. They just want to play a good sounding instrument.

I'm impressed by this development. It's actually a practical system that could be useful in real-world situations.

Re: what are your thoughts on this

If it actually works, and gives acceptable results, fine. Problem is that IME, **** like that never really does work right, or give acceptable results. It's usually over-engineered, poorly executed, and useless in the real world.

Seriously, guitars reached a point, about 50 to 60 years ago, at which they couldn't really be improved upon. There have been some cool things to happen since them (most of all, locking tuners), but none of them "necessary" or "game changing" – just convenient, or providing in choice/variety.

^^^ Wasting their money on R&D and production on the FB X who can wonder why they raised prices.
