What bridge hb in a ash + rw neck strat?

Re: What bridge hb in a ash + rw neck strat?

I have 2 250K pots, the problem is this guitar, in northern ash, has dimed mids and strong bass and treble, I'm pretty sure with an A5 mag this V shaped tone could be accentuated.
That's why I was looking for something with an A2.

Re: What bridge hb in a ash + rw neck strat?

A2 won't work great with rosewood, there would be no bite at all.A dimarzio 36th anniversary might work.

Re: What bridge hb in a ash + rw neck strat?

It's only the fretboard that's rosewood, and A2 can sound wonderful with ash bodied, maple necked guitars (with rosewood fretboards).

In fact, A2 is probably the best mag choice for that guitar. Certainly it depends alot on which specific pup it's going into. If a tighter bass is needed with improved mids, a UOA5 may be the ticket.

Alright, hold on...

1) What kind of pickup(s) have you tried in it that you weren't happy with?
2) What style/type of sound are you going for?
3) What kind of amp are you using?

Sure, magnets have a strong affect on the voicing of a pickup, but there are other things to consider here...

Cheap mods....Strings and pick type....Lol

Re: What bridge hb in a ash + rw neck strat?

Pretty much described through the posts:

1. JB, hybrid CC/59 with A5, A2 and UOA5, CC standard; the best sounding one is the CC but it is too loud compared to the SSL-1

2. most classic rock and some hard rock

3. fender type amp with some pedals, a FF, a SD pickup booster, a SD1 and a modded DS1. Actually the amp is a Peavey C30 heavily modified, I changed the input stage, raised the plate voltage, cathod biased, changed the speaker with a Jensen C12K and modified a lot of other little things in the signal path.

Re: What bridge hb in a ash + rw neck strat?

btw, D'addario .046-010, Dunlop Tortex 1.00

add: Proel cables

:P

I was saying to change string type/brand and pick type and that would change the tone alot..

I love the D'Addarios alot, but lately really liking the EB Rock N Roll Pure Nickel Wrap .010s on my strat and Tele..

:)
no, no, d'addario are MY strings, I've used them for 20 years, anytime I tried different brands I always came back, same thing for tortex pick, they produced them directly with my fingerprint on

My two go to pickups for a bucker in a Strat are the JB and the PG+.

I feel your pain...I have been a longtime D Addario guy myself... ;o)

My first choice would be the PG+ with either A2 or UOA5.

The PG+ I had in one of my strat's bridge position was pretty bright..It had the stock A5 in it and I owned it before alot of us were doing magnet swaps.

Re: What bridge hb in a ash + rw neck strat?

We hear that alot, about it being bright. That's why I recommend the A2 or UOA5 if a tighter bottom end is needed.

I Like the PG+ because it was slightly overwound compared to the stock A2 PG...I Only own 1 strat that has a fullsized humbucker, and I prefer the Dimarzio Fred...It's clearer(articulate) great harmonic content, but cleans up very nicely...I have been using this pickup ever since it came out..I'm not a Dimarzio guy,but this particular pickup is great in this strat.I've tryed others, but I end up wanting this Fred in that bridge spot..Completely stock Fred.Always kind of reminded me of a cross between the PG and a Scremon Demon.

Re: What bridge hb in a ash + rw neck strat?

If you want a hummer that splits into a true single coil to get the traditional Strat sounds, then the Stag Mag can't be beat. It IS a true single coil when split and sounds very good in that respect. It's a fairly high output hummer if that's what you want. Not a bad thing. In fact as a series hummer it really sounds pretty good.

I haven't tried it with the coils in parallel, but I'd assume it would really sound good. Clear, chimey, articulate.

Anyone try a Stag Mag with the coils wired in parallel that would like to enlighten us?

Come to think of it, maybe someday I'll mount mine in a Triple Shot and see what happens.

A split Custom Custom is pretty decent in a strat also,as was the Hybrid that I made a few years ago.Custom/59 coils..
