What cab to try?

I have a Behringer V-amp Pro pre-amp with a ADA Micro Tube 200 watt power amp. I use the clean channel (with some delay) of the Behringer and for distortion I use a Tube Screamer TS-9, and/or a Blues Driver. My guitar is a Schecter C/SH with Jazz and JB pick-ups. Right now I'm using a Marshall MG100 4 12's cab with it. I've been hearing a lot about the difference that speakers can make on a rig and I have no idea what speaker my cab even has. It sounds alright for distortion but for some reason my other guitar player gets a more clear sound out of his Peavey cab.

I was wondering if anyone knows what cab might help the clean channel without compromising the distortion... Thanks

do you have a price range? a marshall 1960bv is a nice cab, but not cheap.

well, price really doesn't matter. I'm not sure if I even want to stick with Marshall unless it really sounds good.

Does anyone know what the Mesa Boogie cabs sound like?

I have a Marshall cab as well as my Rivera cab. The "main" difference i hear is how tight and focused the bottom end is on my Rivera cab and how not the Marshall.

And with Rivera cabs you can ring up and use any speaker combo you like.

I think the build quality, well the attention to detail makes them a better sounding cab.

I pulled the back off my Marshall cab to have alook inside and when i undid the last screw on the back, the rear just fell off towards me. Not a very good fit.

Now my Rivera after removing all screws, sheesh! i spent and extra 10mins prying the bloody rear panel out it was so air tight it was amazing.

Just little things like that make a"big" difference in the end "sound" in my opinion.

Check out Splawn. They make the best cabs that I know of.

Hm... yes. This good news on Rivera cabs is.. well.. good news :D.

Can they sound every bit as menacing as other cabs that people say are the best?

I just like to point out that some speakers are designed to break up much eariler so that you can get the distortion sound. Most Marshall cabs are designed for that and that's why shredders like them. Peavey cabs are not designed to break up as early. I actually use a cab designed for a bass amp when I want to have clean sounds because their speakers don't break up that easy.

I use distortion a lot but not as much as I use clean. Or maybe I use them half and half, either way yes, I think I want to 4 12's cab.

I use a Rivera 4x12 top and a vintage Hiwatt 4x12 bottom cab. Both are great.
The Diezel cabs are a boomy mess; steer clear.
Bogner cabs ... I haven't heard one I've liked, but to be honest, I've never used one in an ideal situation, so I don't wanna totally prejudge them.
I'm not a fan of Marshall cabs at all.

try not to let the MG 4x12 cabinet affect your judgement of marshall cabinets...the higer end marshalls sound significantly better than the MG cabinets (larger cabinet, better speakers, ect). but on the other hand, keep your eyes and ears open to other brands, because there are lots to choose from out there.

well, I know that the MG is a low end Marshall series, but it seems like most Marshalls are made for really high gain. I want to stay open to new brands for sure, but there are so many brands to choose that I don't even know where to start. I need a equal high gain and clean channel.

You should try a Randall XLT cab. They aren't cheap, but they are very well made, sound tight, and they look cool too. I would not suggest any of there lower end cabs though. Marshall cabs, I personally don't like, and Messa cabs are too bassy and muffled sounding to me. Rivera makes a nice cab also. It boils down to what sounds good to you though. Good Luck!
