What do? Can't decide.

Re: What do? Can't decide.

CTN. The stock, gold-plated hardware is crud. (Jin-Ho 'heads. Can't remember whose bridge.) This should be all the excuse that you need to replace/upgrade to better quality materials in whatever finish you choose.

Re: What do? Can't decide.

heh, yeah I'm noticing that even with the trem blocked, it is very temperamental about holding tuning. The bridge is ok, but the tuners definitely have to go.

I'm thinking of getting a set of fender/schaller locking tuners and probably a wilkinson bridge.

I'm also gonna need to get it refretted and the nut replaced at the same time. They are tiny vintage frets to begin with, but some of the lower frets have significant wear on them, and a lot of the other frets are getting a bit too plateau-y on top.

How about this?

Everything above the black pickguard is chrome, make for a nice contrast. And black hardware, especially black tuner, is classy yet not gawdy.

Re: What do? Can't decide.

As far as the hardware goes, I like gold with Trans red. Reminds me of the deluxe players strats. Now imagine this with gold covered hums and gold dome knobs (I can't do that fancy stuff on my phone) A black pg might help it look cleaner or pop more. Whatever you like.

Re: What do? Can't decide.

honestly guys, I am really not drooling over any of these options. not even the ones I made.

IMO the gold hardware on solid black pickguard looks the least retarded to me. but it still doesn't make me drool :\

Maybe I need to sleep on it for a few months.

Re: What do? Can't decide.

I think the gold hardware over black pickguard look cool too, but it sucks that the gold hardware always tarnish over time.

Re: What do? Can't decide.

Maybe you should just refinish it? I think it'd be easier to find something that works if the red wasn't so bright. A darker red, like burgundy, could look really nice.

Re: What do? Can't decide.

too much hassle to refinish it. The red's not actually very bright at all. it's sorta like a crimson/wine-red colour. very rich and warm looking.

I think I might just end up going with the black pickguard and all gold hardware.

Get an aged switch tip that's a dark cream/gold to match the knobs and get gold screws/studs on the humbuckers.
