What do I need? First time coil splitting...

Want to coil tap both the neck (59) and bridge (JB) pickups. The guitar has 1 volume control, 1 tone control, and a 3 way toggle switch. What type of potentiometers do I need? Will a 500k push-pull audio taper work? I’ve installed pickups/electronics before but this is my first time with coil splitting and using push-pull pots. Any info will be appreciated!

For a JB and a 59, it would be coil splitting, not coil tapping. Coil tapping is typically with single coils. A single pickup coil has to be wound especially to allow tapping, with two positive leads coming off the one coil.

As a generalization, Humbuckers tend to be installed with 500k pots, or in some cases with Gibson guitars, 300k pots. Note that when the JB was first designed and created, it was intended to work in a Fender guitar that had 250k pots.

Generally you want linear taper for volume and audio taper for tone. (Sounds counterintuitive to me, but the effective slope works out as expected that way.)
