you know how hard it is to turn an amp up at guitar center? they don't let you! let me put it that way. call me stupid, you know i quit. it's a waiste of my time to be here and TRY and be helpful. but when you guys think my opinion is wrong all i get is ridiculed and what it seems like ridiculed. you think people like that? you think that makes people happy? WELL IT DOESN'T!Mephis said:WTF Are you talking about?
Alot of classic recordings that "seem" like a marshall are bassmans, they have AMAZING OD! (Think plexi.)
The only way you wouldn't get that thing belching up the flames from hell would be to play it at low volumes. Then, what's the point of owning an amp like it?
Anyway, they're not really a clean amp... I don't know how you got that...

we're not ridiculing you, we're just correcting you. Everyone appreciates it when people give advice, but when the advice is wrong, well, you can't just let it go, people will believe what we tell them, you know?
you're not stupid, just new to the game, we were all there at one point, just stick around & learn some stuff man, like i said go ahead & give advice but when it's a false statement someone has to correct it
BigDaddy said:OK......my experience is owning some reissue tweed bassmans. They sucked until I put a Hoffman board with some mods and detuned the amp a little. That one had the eminence speakers. I changed a lot of things in there to make it sound more like a real one. If the LTD uses the same transformers and schematic as the reissue it is not a replica of an original. Look at the schematics.
I did play through an original and have heard a few in my years and the reissues sound nothing like them until you start changing a lot of things.
For that kind of money have someone build you a true replica using Mercury magnetic transformers and Mallory 150 caps. You can get some old P10R's on ebay, I have 6 of them. Have them reconed as close to the old specs as possible. Or get 4 old C10Q's since the prices for P10Q's are ridiculous.
Bam.......there you go.
I think you will be happier that way than having anything Fender can make from their factories.
This is my opinion, but I do build my own amps and guitars now because of the junk being made by companies today, not to mention their prices.
It's actually a very easy amp to build and responds well to slight changes in preamp cap and resistors values. You can really dial in your sound. Or use a jumper cable and use both channels.
I would be more inclined to build a Webervst kit rather than buy a Fender.
The key to the whole amp is which transformers they use. Are they exact copies of the real tweed bassman as you can get from Mercury magnetics or are they the same stuff they use in the reissue Super Reverb and 59 bassman?
Plus, are they giving you the reissue Jensen P10R's? Not a bad speaker but nothing compares to the old Jensen's tone wise.
The weak link in original bassman's were the speakers, the p10R's could not handle the power and lows. They did upgrade to the Jensen P10Q which are going for about $200 each these days. They also put out a lot of bass.......way too much for me. That's why the later Marshall MKII heads did change one channel to cut the bass down(they are basically the same amp). It really shows how much bass when you turn up the volume ......wow....hey.....it's a bass amp right.
But the bottom line is.........do you really know what an original bassman sounds like and is that what you want. Or do you want what the LTD really is which I am sure is nothing like a real tweed bassman.

BigDaddy said:Nothing personal guys but some of you are very miss-informed. I have read some of the replies and just shake my head.
I am not trying to insult anybody, on the contrary, that's not my intention. I'm just pointing something out.
A tele with this amp cranked is about the same as a LP through a BF. That's like saying a Chevy is the same as a Ford because they both have 4 tires. Never mind what pickups, strings, pedals and the settings of the amp are.
Dude, I know you're 18 but think a little before you make statements like that.
The tried and true method of playing a strat or tele successfully with these amps is to jump the channels. As done on the older 4 input Marshall's, since they are very similar amps.
really, some of the statements made here are just ludicrous.
My opinions are based on almost 40 years of playing and owning "a lot" of fender amps and some Marshall's.
But yes they are just my opinions.
The difference is I do not make statements unless I am close to 100% sure I know what I am talking about.
I do have a question about the person who said don't buy one from the floor. People used it a lot and it takes a beating.
Gee.......so does gigging. So if it can't hold up to a music store what makes you think it will hold up after about 20-30 gigs?
That's just my logic, I guess I'm just thinking out loud.
