What do you guys use for bedroom playing?

Re: What do you guys use for bedroom playing?

I either play my classical or the Artist with my tube combo (4 x EL84's). It's very loud but sounds good at bedroom volume, too. I'm having a powersoak installed in it soon, to make those EL84's shine at lower volumes, too, when needed.

I think i'm going to go play through one of those with my gibson today, though. I tried it with a strat and dug it, but i'm not sure it breaks up quite enough for me.

It really doesn't break up until you're really pushing the power amp stage and that usually starts at 6 ... then again I might get earlier breakup if I swap the tubes.

The good news is that it takes OD really well and you will get a good sound if you put a good quality OD in front of it. The 6V6 is enough to give you a dynamic sound at bedroom levels, but I don't think you're going to get power tube breakup.

yeah, i went and played it today with the gibson. I'm not 100% on whether or not i want to buy it... i actually think the sound wouldn't be TOO loud considering the amount of noise i usually make anyway, but there was a 'fizzyness' i guess in the tone as i turned it up that i didn't like. I've heard the amp responds VERY well to new tubes though.

I use a 5 watt Crate Palomino with no pedals at home.

I keep thinking playing without pedals will force me to clean up my random slop, but it hasn't worked yet :-(
