i have a DD in my les paul right now and it's not really doing so good. it just doesn't sound very good. the guitar needs to be set up really bad though, so that may be the problem. so what do you have in your les paul and what music do you play, and how do you like it?

Re: what do you have in your les paul?

My LP Custom has a CC and a Jazz - good mix so far I have a push/pull phase switch to throw the middle position out of phase ala Green/Page.

My LP Special has a SP-90-3 bridge - 90-1 Vintage neck.

My Standard was C5b/Jazzn up until a few hours ago. I am witing for an A2P to show up to replace the C5b.

I play hard rock for the most part, mixed up with some punk, blues and metal.

Love 'em all really and if I wasn't so nuts the C5 would've been fine I just prefer A2 mags in the bridge of a humbucker axe at this point.

I play heavy rock for the most part. I have these combinations in Les Pauls:
Jazz/Jazz (my favorite)
Pearly Gates/Pearly Gates
Alnico II Pro/Alnico II Pro
Duncan Custom/'59
Custom Custom/Pearly Gates
500T/496R

Re: what do you have in your les paul?

Seth Lover & 59n for classic rock and hard rock.
I have had lots of pickups in my LP. I actually like the DD for hard rock. What don't you like about it?

As far as Les Pauls go, you can't have a bad setup on one. They're very unforgiving guitars, and won't stay in tune or sound right if the action, nutwork, or intonation is even a hair off. If you tune the guitar perfectly with the tuner's needle at 12:00, every note from about the 10th fret to the 20th have to be at 12:00, too. If any of them start to fall flat or sharp as you go past the 12th, you need to adjust the saddles.

Les Paul 57 Reissue Goldtop Std. Nickel Custom 5/59n Direct fit Schalller Kluson copy tuners. Pull up tonepots to split both pickups.

Les Paul 35th Ann. Custom Black Beauty. Gold Custom 5/59n/59n

Les Paul Std. Prem Plus honeyflame top. Nickel Custom 4 & Seth Lover neck.

Jolly, what do you like so much about the Jazz in the bridge?

i find it too bright, cause when i have my settings ste up for my guitar with the super distortion in and the Custom, it ends up being too bright. but i did like it when i had the guitar tuned to B for a while, the clarity was nice on it. maybe i'll put one in a seven string when io get one. but besides that, it was just too bright. i dont like pickups that have more treble/bass/mids than the restm i like them balanced like the Custom.

Re: what do you have in your les paul?

I have a Custom b/Alnico Pro II n.

I really like the Custom b, it hits like a sledgehammer. Some days I like the Alnico and some days I don't. It has alot of color, but almost too much sustain if that makes any sense.

Re: what do you have in your les paul?

Mine are just stock Gibby Humbuckers in Lizzie (76 Custom). It would probably benefit from a slightly hotter pup (JB's come to mind) and a PG in front. Having said that, my guitar fleet is large enough ("honey, I couldn't help buying it..I heard voices!") that I just don't have the time to modify each and every one. I play all sorts of music. My band goes from Nat King Cole to Green Day and from Bob Wills to Doobie Bros And as much as I like my Paul, I'd be lost without my stupid "bastardcaster" Tele.

Re: what do you have in your les paul?

In my Epiphone LP I have a Screamin' Demon in the bridge and a Pearly Gates in the neck.

For my Gibson LP I plan to have either a set of PG's, Seth Lovers or Antiquites. I can't quite make my mind up! :) I think I'll probably go for the Seths tho :)

Re: what do you have in your les paul?

A matched pair of SD Antiquities. One cream and one black. 7.4 and 8.4k respectfully. Alnico 2 mag in the neck, Alnico 5 in the bridge.

Great vintage tone! :headbang:

Re: what do you have in your les paul?

I mainly play blues rock & heavy rock. I have those combos in my LPs :

Antiquities (wonderful PUs)
Pearly Gates
SD P90s (I think about trying Ants P90s)
'59s (I will try the "Jolly combo" Jazz/Jazz in this one)

I also had A2Ps (which are great in LPs) and Seths (which I found better sounding in a PRS)

Re: what do you have in your les paul?

C5 and Jazz combo.. might go with the Custom Custom in the bridge soon as the C5 is a good pickup but im looking for a little more bass. still im happy with the combo at the moment

Re: what do you have in your les paul?
