What does SD do with returned pickups?

Is there a way we can get them at a reduced "outlet store" price?

EDIT one year later.... see post below...

Might depend on the condition. If it's pretty clean and tests good and passes all QC checks, they could just replace the lead wire and repackage.

Hmm... I suppose they could keep them around for ultra-fast "warranty repairs" now that I think about it. I doubt they repackage and sell as "new"... is that even legal?

such an asinine thing to do. hey we build some stupid expensive things no one wants, so rather than sell them for cost and make the few people who did like em happy, or give em away to charity or something, were gonna destroy em and put em in the landfill.

Arrogance, really. "We can afford to just run all these over"

Even if the guitar was total shit, you could have at least stripped the pickups, tuners, and bridges out and used them in something else.

OK... so I think I found the answer to this question, albeit about 11 months later...

I just got a new LP Standard 50's and I'm not in love with the Burstbucker 1 & 2 so I ordered a set of Seth Lovers off Amazon... listed as "Sold By: Seymour Duncan; Fulfilled by Amazon." They were in a bundle with a set of Antiquity 10's and the price was below list price.

I just now looked at them to get them ready for installation and these pickups have absolutely been installed in a guitar. There is solder on the braided shield and on the hot wire for both pickups. The covers are nice and clean... no marks.

Honestly, I don't mind so much - because as I said, they were below list price even with the strings bundled-in. BUT I was surprised to say the least... I went back to check the listing and unless I am just not seeing it, there is nothing in the listing that would suggest these are not brand new pickups.

Again, not upset... but I do think the listing should have stated they were "B-Stock".

Was the package sealed with tape? It could have been bought and returned to Amazon then resold since it says fulfilled by them

I see the listing with the strings in the SD amazon store. It is unusual they'd have a discounted New Seth bundle at less than MAP and one without strings for $20 more.

There is tape on the box but I honestly don't remember if I broke the tape or not. I never thought of them being an Amazon return... that could well be the case. I seriously doubt anyone working in their returns inspection department would know what to look for to see whether or not they've been installed.

I read through the reviews - there weren't a whole lot of them - and there was no mention of them being cheaper, used, etc.

Sure love these pickups though... I have a set in my Les Paul Studio and I couldn't be happier with them. If they didn't have gold covers and screws I would have just put the 57 Classics back in there and put the SL's in the new guitar.
