What Duncan Pickups Are In John Frusciante's Strats?

People are saying Antiquities and SSL-1s, but which ones exactly? I'm looking to put a set of pickups to match his sound in my favorite White 90's 62reissue Fender Stratocaster.

Wither or not John is using Antiquities now, I don't know. However it was John's 1955 strat that he thought had stock pups, and they turned out to be SSL-1s.

Actually, I think both of his main guitars were SSL-1's. This is why my strat has the same setup. Love those tones.

Would it be better to go with the SSL-1's than the Ants? Im aiming for a Dani California, Scar Tissue, and, Ready Made, snd Californication sound.

Honestly considering all the variables in the equation from amps to speakers to fingers I think either pickup will do just fine for the tones your after. Both are great singles

I've got a Strat with SSL1's and they can nail that Frusciante tone.

You've got that right! His pedal boards are huge. Massive amounts of Moog stuff.

FYI - Vintage style Strat single coils use pickup covers. The covers can be pretty much any color you like. When looking at SSL-1's, the black you are seeing is the bobbin material. You should use a cover to protect the windings in addition to the appearance.

On this topic, does anyone else find the tone on Scar Tissue to be "softer" than the SSL-1's? I agree they nail the more aggressive Frusciante tones, Scar Tissue always seemed different, I wonder if he used a different guitar on that track.

EDIT - Maybe it's just a squishier amp with more mids than I associate with his more spanky clean tone.

I do not know, I'm doubtful about it, I think it can also be Fender's.

Furthermore. Which will use in their Telecaster's? that's even harder to know, I guess.

johns used other guitars and im sure other pups but his strat sound is just ssl1's

there is lots more to his rig than just guitars and pups
