What famous artist needs a Duncan tone transplant?

Which artist, which pickup is she or he currently using, and what replaces it? Why would the Duncan be better for that artists sound?

Re: What famous artist needs a Duncan tone transplant?

i am not going to get into 'need' and 'better' etc ..

but i'd like to see what steve vai and/or joe satriani could come up with using more vintage gear ... see what it would evoke from them out of their element ... they are great players ... i bet it would be new and fresh and really enjoyable

a R9 or R8 with some ants ... a strat with a set of the new classic stack plus ... a tele with whatever ... a 335 with a set of seths ...

Slash needs to go seymour duncan :laugh2:

Just kidding - Id second what tone4days said - maybe someone like Kirk Hammet with a 59 (well, he uses Les Pauls now and maybe before he did) but maybe load them with some Seth Lovers instead of whatever he has in them (even instead of the burstbuckers that come with the historic LPs). That with no pedals plugged into a Fender Tweed amp - he probably can play some sick blues if he tried.

i've just had a terrible vision of the guy from linkin park playing a telecaster into a twin!

he might be a pretty good guitarist.. but he's pretty good at covering it up ;)

Kirk's been playing some Gibson Les Paul, I think they're Class 5's, live in concert , with a covered JB/Jazz com bo. I read that, and saw him with the Class 5's in concert. Didn't really sound any different through his setup

Ha! That'd be a sight. Vai with a Tele, and obviously no Floyd.

I'm not familiar enough with Vai, but Satch gets pretty good tone with his current rig, and I'm not one to criticise the means so long as the end result is good.

He's on the new Santana CD, he does some nice bluesy stuff there and his tone isn't half bad either.

I think that one of the reasons that Satch's tone is good is because his pickups are based on vintage PAF voiceing with a little modern hair added...

I too would like to hear Vai on a Tele or an LP...

Without a doubt, Zakk Wylde. That dude can wail, but his tone is pretty mushy. I think a Custom or something similar would be sweet in his Les Paul.
