What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

When I was 16 I had the following rig:

Silver Mako Rhoads copy
Gibson Flying V
DOD FX69 Grunge Pedal
Fender M-80 Bass head
Hohner /Celestion 1x15 cabinet

When I was 17 we started up Suffersystem and I quickly found out that my gear wouldn´t do what I wanted it to when I wanted it to.... So I looked into other brands, found Jackson, bought one, and haven´t looked back since. Picked up a Marshall JCM 900 head and a 4x12, and then all hell started to break loose. :headbang:

Come to think of it, if I hadn´t started that band, I´d probably never have gotten so much GAS :laugh2:

... saw QR back in the day... must've been before Carlos was endorsing those Washburns I guess, because at the time when I saw him onstage he was mostly playing a black Schecter Tele.

Ah, me too! I think he used a gold or white one the night I saw them.

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

My first guitar was a Martin Stinger that my stepdad bought me when i was 14. It was basically a Strat copy in seafoam green with 21 frets, vintage style trem and 3 single coils. I have no idea how much he paid for it, but it probably wasnt any more than a couple hundred dollars if that. That guitar came accompanied with a little Martin solid state amp. There was no preamp distortion. That came the old fashioned way, which of course was by turning the volume up to max which really wasnt all that loud, but definitely louder than a nice practice volumse and it produced a halfway decent fuzz tone.

I later added an Arion distortion pedal, which was great because i no longer had to hear complaints from the parents. Probably a year after I got the Stinger, I talked my grandparents into buying me a Cort Flying V and a Gorilla 1x8 practice amp. The V was a gibson copy, black with cream body and neck binding. It also had a floyd type trem with a locking nut and bridge and neck humbuckers. The Gorilla amp was my first amp with preamp distortion.

The first guitar I ever bought with my own money at the age of 19 was a Charvel. It was a bright Red that actually had a candy like smell to it. It had an actual floyd trem and a Jackson style headstock. I sold it several years later, but still wish I hadnt. A few years back I had a bit of a nostolgia attack and bought a Jackson Dinky because the guy I sold the Charvel to wouldnt sell it back to me.

When I hit my early 20's I graduated to a Les Paul Studio and a Peavey 5150 and later added a Mesa Boogie Mark !V. Sadly, a few years later, I parted company with the Peavey, Mesa and Les Paul to fund a down payment on a house. Also sadly, my gear situation never recovered from there as you can see in my sig. My current guitars are cheaper ones that Ive upgraded as I can.

Actually, I left a few things out... There was a Fiesta Red Squier P bass and a Korean Epiphone 12 string acoustic. I also still had my old "Carlos" acoustic. I'd like to find that guitar again...

My other amps, prior to the Marshall... a Peavey Backstage Plus, a Kingston head and 2x12 and a 100w Yamaha bass combo.

Since i'm 16, i'M still a teen...
Anyway, I started out with a crappy SEARS acoustic guitar (60$) from the brand Nova. But last year I equipped with a PRS SE Custom (Now upgraded with SD Jazz/JB) and a Roland Cube x30 with a Original Cry-Baby

Ah, yes...I remember it well. I had a black Electra Les Paul copy running through a Peavey Bandit. Now, almost 35 years later, I'm digging around on CraigsList and Ebay for a black Electra LP like my first one. In hindsight, that was a darn decent guitar that I wish I could have kept. The Bandit? Well, let's just say I have no regrets about parting with that one.

That is some nice stuff!! I'd love to have an old 70's Marshall half stack around the house today!
And the Rick 4001 looks exactly like the one the bass player in my first band in high school had. That brings back memories (good and bad). After high school he sold it and the Acoustic bass amp and cabinet his mom had bought him so he could get high. Poor guy had some issues. I called him sometime in the 80's when I was saving up for one myself and asked about it but he said his 4001 was long gone.
I ended up scoring a black one in 1985 for under $400 that I still have, love and was recording bass track with just last week.
Very nice stuff!

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

That would be the late '80's for me. I remember having a white Kramer Focus 6000 and a Hondo 761 Deluxe (in red with white stripes, ala Eddie VH) that I put a Rockinger trem system on. For amps, I had a little Marshall Lead 12 and a borrowed Music Man RD-112.

I have none of that gear anymore these days although I kind of wish I could try out that Lead 12.
