What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

when i was really young in the 70's i had 2 electric POS my dad bought me at Garage sales... a Hagstrum GOYA and a no name weird vox like copy... i played it thru a 70's SEARS SS amp...

later on in the 80's i started working enough to save up for a Plywood Kramer Striker and a SS Marshall... add a few Boss pedals.. that was my rig until 1989 when i bought a used Les Paul and a Fender amp...

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

A Harmony guitar I bought for five bucks, and a SS Crate G-10...:earl:

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

This guitar body with a different neck and different pickups. the neck pup was a 60's strat pickup ,the bridge a 60's single coil gibson.

A Jen wah and a Jen distortion booster that plugged into the guitar.
An amp like this one.[best pic i could find] There were a few different versions of the NS 120.The output valves were 4x6ca7's I think[not sure].It ran two Quad boxes [also strauss]It was loud and clear.Depending on what I was doing ,Iwould use one or two boxes.

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

1977 - 16 yrs. old bought my first guitar, Ibanez Maple LP Clone bolt on neck. No amp but access to a Marshall half stack minimally.

1978 - 17 yrs. old Sold LP to buy Grande Flying V broken by Northwest Airlines. Repaired. No amp but as above.

1979 - 18 yrs old bought a Gibson The Paul. YUM!! Still no amp but as above.

1979-1981 Traded The Paul for a '75 Strat October '79. Sold that to fund return to Minnesota from trip to Ohio in January '80. Vantage Les Paul also bought from funds. STILL NO amp. Broke the neck on the Vantage and they sold me a replacement for $100. :fing2: Kept it until I was 21.

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

70's Gibsons mostly and really small cheap practice amps, like Gorilla Tube Crunchers and Quantums with 8 inch speakers and fuzzy coverings. I didn't get a "real" amp til I was around 19 or 20 when I bought a JCM 900 half.

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

Would've been about 1982... I had a transistor amp made by Acoustic Control Corp., a Carvin CM130CM (all maple les paul shape), and an MXR distortion+.

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

From ages 12-16

Age 12 1971 Fender Mustang(Bought for $200 by my Grandpa as a Birthday gift)

Age 13 Peavey Rage

Age 14 1982 Epiphone SG special made by Gibson Made in U.S.A.

Age 15 Arion Chorus
Age 16(Got a job and no bils, when I could spend all my money on gear!!)
MXR Flanger
MXR Micro Flanger
MXR 6 band EQ
Rockman Soloist
Rockman distortion generator
Peavey Bass Amp.

I don't have any of that stuff anymore.....Although my wife a couple of months ago found a perfectly good Peavey Rage sitting out for the trash and grabbed it up. It's our practice amp now!

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

MIM strat, marshall something or other (SS) and an SG copy. pretty cool and they both played well, but I had to get a tele and it all changed then.

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

late teens, as in 18/19:

had a valvestate head, 2-12" and an ESP M-1 custom. added a jcm800 2-12" that I used with a super OD briefly. instead of getting the amp serviced when it started acting funny (probably due to needing a tube change), I sold it. I didn't know tubes went bad, I thought I bought a bum amp!

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

This guitar...Washburn A-20 (huge Quiet Riot fan), got it for Christmas in '83. And I had a Peavey Pacer 1x12 from about 1977. No pedals, just the overdrive on the amp, and it sounded pretty good. I think those are Dimarzios in the A-20, but not sure.

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

Man, are you rich or something?
You're 18 and already own a Dual Recto, recto Cab, christ.
I don't know a single person, in real life anyway, at that age that could afford stuff like that.
Have you been working since you about 12 years old or something woa.
I'm 20, and no way in my teen years and no way would I have been able to pull 8 grand (Aussie dollars though) out of my pocket to buy that kinda stuff.
Even now, as a 20 year old, I'm only just starting to make enough money to finally have a custom made guitar and probably a good tube amp before I turn 21.

VK's worked very hard for every single peice of gear he's got now and has had in the past. He's worked a variety of jobs to earn the money he needs for this stuff, and saves his money. He buys low and sells high, too.

I had some pretty high-test stuff when I was a teenager as well. It's not impossible and you don't need to be rich, you just have to want it bad enough to work for it.

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

When I was 19 I was still using this as my main player
GibsonFlyingV83.jpg

into a 2 channel JCM 900 head

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

Oh wow...

Sears acoustic
Marlboro d-28 knockoff
Squire affinity strat
Hondo II les paul
Harmony/Teisco Del Ray H101
Fender Lead II
Memphis LPDC knockoff
Several frankenstrats (I think 7?)
Two yamaha basses
Kay SG

that's all I can think of at the moment. All ran through a Peavey Rage 158 or a Peavey Envoy 110.

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

Oh this brings back memories. Pics are even more fun.

My first electric guitar, after learning on a cheap acoustic:
strat.jpg

I still have it.

And I had one of these:
ross.jpg

Mine was stolen long before it got this beat up.
I also got a Systech flanger when I was a sophomore:
systech%20and%20phaser.jpg

Long since sold or traded.

An amp like my first one:
peavey1.jpg

After I traded the Peavey Musician away, I got one of these, when I was a junior:
rolandbolt.jpg

I thought I was safe with a tube amp. But this one also disappointed, and it's long gone.

It's really interesting reading and seeing what you guys played through in your teens.

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

a Hohner solid state amp...(took me a month to figure out the speakers were wired out of phase from each other...ha ha ha...still sounded like crap even in phase)
I miss my Hohner practice amp!
A kid at school had this Hohner amp with 1-12" speaker (no worries about out of phase!) that he was sick of because the input jack crackled and cut out. He also had a new amp, so he didn't need it anymore.

He gave it to me just to get it off his hands.

I realized the problem was just a loose wire to the input jack so when I got it home I pulled out the chassis and connected the wire so it wouldn't come loose. It worked great after that!

It really sounded decent. Just one channel, but it had a real nice clean sound and sounded good with a pedal in front of it.

The speaker in it turned out to be a 12" Celestion!

Sadly I don't have the amp anymore, and the story of how I lost it is a long one...

Re: What gear did you rock when you were in your late teens?

My trusty MIM Strat and a KORG AX100G with headphones.
BTW, I started when I was 20.:sword:
