What Gibson to get?

Re: What Gibson to get?

Edwards and Burny are both fantastic Gibson substitutes. I'm gonna say both are better than most Epiphones.

Also....don't know if you can find one but an Epiphany Elitist is an amazing guitar. It shows that you CAN make an epic awesome Les Paul for $1000.

Re: What Gibson to get?

All watches tell time. There is a reason people buy Rolex and Breitling. It is how the name on the dial makes them feel. Buying a luxury item gives some people a sense of accomplishment, that "I finally made it moment". Are there guitars that are more dependable and built better than Gibsons? Sure. Just like there are $999 dollar watches that are built better than a Rolex. It doesnt make buying the Rolex a bad thing. A Gibson Les Paul is without a doubt a luxury item, enjoy the moment.

So would it be worth getting over a Gibson les Paul instead of paying $5000 for a relic les Paul?

Very very true, but then again so many people are saying to stay away.....

Re: What Gibson to get?

The value of a thing is very much up to the person doing the buying. For some a name is important. For others, performance for money spent is most important.
In the end you have to decide, and live with what you buy. Not that you can't sell it, though possibly for a loss.

...and there are people that will tell you ad nauseam how their $999 watch is so much better than your Rolex. I Own 4 Gibsons, 3 of them are Les Pauls and I am planning on buying another. If a Les Paul is what you really want just do it.

That's one of the reasons I want a Gibson, they do increase in value, and unfortunately most lower brand "players" guitars lose their value, even though they might be just as good as Gibsons, that's why I'm not super keen on buying a lower brand because I don't want to lose a heap of money, and most Gibsons hold their value, providing u don't damage it. But this Edwards relic les Paul has really caught my eye....

Recognize also that where you are in all that might change over time. Your needs, values, priorities -- maybe you'll wake up one day and decide you only want guitars that were made in Trinidad and have wenge headstock veneers.

Yeah but it's way out of my price range at the moment... This Edwards les Paul is a decent option but idk, saving will take a while but it would be worth it...

Hahahahahahahahahaha yeah I don't think I'll be that picky, I just want a real nice guitar, and Gibsons have such a good rep, I'm not one for super important spec, just basic one piece bodies.

I am totally with you. My argument is if someone prefers to have the Gibson name on the axe and is willing to pay a premium for it go for it. Personally, my Les Pauls are superior to any Gibson style guitar I have ever played. I have owned everything from a $300 Sonex to my AAA tops all have performed bueatifully. Noone is going to convince me Gibson doesn't make a quality instrument. My $600 SG Special is a beast.

Re: What Gibson to get?

I can't argue that. But even though it says Gibson, you still have to be careful. I've purchased one guitar unhandled by myself prior. It was my Jackson 5 string. Indonesian I believe. I had to set it up according to my taste, but it's been solid ever since.

Re: What Gibson to get?

Omg I was just looking at an Edwards les Paul!!!!!! Are they good? The sound is a little bit brighter than a real Gibson and doesn't have the same lows from a few comparisons I heard but they look amazing!!! I was looking at a relic one, worth the buy?

The primary tonal differences are pickups. The Edwards LPs come with the Duncan JB in the bridge. If you put a Gibson 498T there nobody would know the difference.

What Gibson to get?

The Super Distortion is an amazing pickup. I just put one in my LP....should have done it right off the bat.

Same here. I kept mine stock for a year and barely played. I love the super distortion!

Yep!

I got cheap Flying V copy rescued from some else's trash , did a fret level replaced all the hardware and electronics, did a set up and installed 498T and 490R. Plays and performs and sounds like a Gibson.

Similarly my Cort Yorktown BV which I bough new but half price as an ex demonstrator is essentially a Gibson ES275 copy - but 1/5 of the price. A high quality well made guitar. I polished the frets l, did a set up and upgraded to Gibson Classic 57 PAF reissues and now it sounds like a Gibson but played better than one out the box.
