What HB to put in a FAT Strat

Re: What HB to put in a FAT Strat

Since the only thing most contemporary country music has in common with old time country is cowboys hats (laugh!) I think the Invader would probably work just fine in today's country format. When I hear country music these days, live or otherwise, I just hear/see a rock band wearing cowboy hats.

(For the most part...)

I agree 100%, and some of them don't even wear cowboy hats yet look more like a rock band. Crazy, isn't it?

Who would've thought the JB could be used to for Jazz and fusion (Holdsworth)?

In my experience, my favorite Strat buckers are the SD Custom Custom, DiMarzio Air Zone, DiMarzio Super Distortion, SD Custom Shop Brobucker and SD Custom Shop '78 Model.

Sorry, maybe my dad raised me wrong: when I hear "country" I think John Denver :scratchch

That's "Folk", not Country.

Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, George Straight, Brad Paisley, Reba. Now THAT's Country.

Boy...how unfortunate. (laugh!)

I've never thought of John Denver as being a country act. Folk or Pop maybe.

I guess you could call it "classic country" lol like some stuff that used to be "rock" or "hard rock" is now "classic rock" :D

I've thought the same way for a decade at least. Country these days is rock with a hint of twang. The country players are rockers at heart, lot of 'em got the long hair too....or a mullet!
:naughty:

I dunno...I kinda doubt John Denver saw himself as being a country act. I mean, if he's country than so are Peter, Paul and Mary...and they ain't! (laugh!) Lew

Re: What HB to put in a FAT Strat

Well... For Strats I have found that there are 3 pickups that I totally dig..

The Fullshred, JB and Distortion. Fullshred is my favorite for all things 80s metal.. Has a fat warm and raw sound to it.. JB is kinda the same but more 70s like, not as tight in the sound and a tad more mids.. The Distortion is in between the two..

I would go for FS or JB. FS has a awesome clean tone and it does clean up nicely.

Re: What HB to put in a FAT Strat

If you want twang, the twangiest humbucker I ever tried was a 59/Custom Hybrid with A8 that was in the bridge of my les paul, wired in parallel.

Re: What HB to put in a FAT Strat

Easy pick for the bridge:
Stag-Mag

2 single coils side by side on a humbucker mounting plate.
Clean, clear, and punchy. Not Shrill and not thin.
Very balanced with no mud.

Re: What HB to put in a FAT Strat

I like singles better for twang. The SSL-1 is a really twangy pickup for Strats. The Tele, Jaguar and Mustang get my votes for twangy guitars. You can also do it with a Gretsch Chet Atkins.
