Is the difference noticeable by looking at the two pickups side by side, or setup under some strings? Or is it very minimal? I was thinking I might want to try out the pup in another guitar along with the strat, and if it happens to be a non trem guitar like a LP, then going with the trembucker might be a bad move.

You might notice a difference because trembuckers are slightly wider than standard humbuckers.

They do fit, but it is a little tight, tight enough that it can pull on the tape around the pickup. I would suggest a hole to be cut for the covered humbucker , the rectangle shape to guarantee a nice fit.

greendy123, I was going to order a pickguard from Warmoth and those come with the rectangular cutouts.

Go with the short legs. Any of the progressive models will come with short legs. The vintage models like the 59 and such will come with long legs but can be ordered with short.

I going to do that too, but I made the mistake of not doing that and the fit in the pickguard just a bit tight.

Nope, just the size of bobbins and spacing between pole pieces are different.

Anyone have more single coil recomendations for middle and neck, if I'm using either the EVH '78 or CC? Also, what value pots and capacitor would you recomend? I understand singles like to see 250k's while humbuckers like to see 500k's?

Well, what I'm going to be doing in one of my guitars, which will be one hum - one single, the volume will be 500k but on the 3-way switch I'll put a 500k resistor from the neck pickup connection to ground which will put it in parallel with the 500k volume pot making the value in that position be 250k.

You can do the same thing with a 5-way. Just put a 500k resistor from the hookups of the middle and neck singles to ground and use a 500k volume pot. If you're going to use 500k for the volume, change the tones to 500k as well.

Thanks for the info! That sounds really cool. I wanted to have one tone pot to work with the neck single, and one with the bridge humbucker instead of the middle single like stock strats. So with that resistor thing you just mentioned, the two single coils would see a 250k volume pot, whenever the 5 way switch is in their respective positions?

Are pickups only picky with volume pots? What happens when a single coil is used with a 500k tone pot, or a humbucker with a 250k tone pot?

Using the 500k pots will allow more highs to naturally pass through, so using tone on 10 with 500k pot the pickups will be brighter than what it would be with the 250k pot. So that means a 250k with a humbucker would reduce amount of highs coming from it. For a single coil a 500k may make single coil, which already have a good amount of high, too bright for you. I'm not sure about volume pot, but I think it has the same effect as the tone pot on pickups.
