What is a Nocaster?

Re: What is a Nocaster?

Back when fender first came out with the tele, it was called the "broadcaster". Gretsch (i think, cant remember for sure), had a model called the "broadkaster" and got all butt-hurt over it. So, the transitional models, after they couldnt use the "broadcaster" name and before they came up with the "telecaster" name, are called "nocasters" cause they lack a model name on the headstock.

At least, thats what I heard.

Re: What is a Nocaster?

Pretty much what he said! Actually, the Broadkaster was a line of Gretsch DRUMS, of all things, that it threw a hissy fit over. The Fender model was changed to "telecaster", but a few guitars were made in the interim bearing no model name - and these are known as "nocasters". They are REALLY rare, and very valuable!

EDIT - Sorry, ORIGINAL nocasters from the 50s are very rare and expensive. The Fender stie is, it would seem, doing reissues.

All I know its one of the early Fenders guitar made. Its termed as Nocaster relic if you were to find one, not the reissue kind

Yes, it was the broadcaster and what they did for a short period of time was shave off the name Broadcaster before it left the shop...so people started calling it the Nocaster. But ya, it it pretty much a tele.
