True bypass is a very good thing, If it weren't, you wouldn't see all the high dollar boutique pedal makers using it. It's a bit of a pain in the arse to wire the switches properly, so the effort is worth the payoff.
But, true bypass is really only a benefit if you intend to play with the pedal OFF for a good bit of your set. If it's something like a compressor or overdrive that you keep on all the time, then you're never bypassing it! I see guys who use inexpensive compressors first in their rigs, which stay on all the time. These are followed by big money fuzzes and such that they switch in and out. Their sonic results are amazing!
